𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 🧠 🧸 A growing crisis On World Mental Health Day, it's crucial to highlight the mental health challenges in Latin America. The region faces rising mental health issues, particularly depression and anxiety, often exacerbated by social inequality, violence and economic instability. According to the Pan American Health Organization ("PAHO"), mental health services remain underfunded, with fewer than 2% of health budgets allocated to mental health. Additionally, stigmatisation hinders access to care, especially in rural areas. Colombian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Jorge #Rojas revealed that the country will formally become part of the BRI once further discussions are held between both parties. This decision marks a significant shift in Colombia’s diplomatic and economic relations with #China, enhancing its geopolitical strategy to diversify partnerships beyond the US. Chinese investment in Colombia, which tripled between 2021 and 2022, has increased, with key projects like Bogotá’s metro already underway. 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 ☝📍 Raising ADHD awareness in Latin America #October marks Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ("ADHD") Awareness Month, a critical time to address the growing need for understanding. In Latin America, the disorder affects an estimated 6-12% of children and 2-5% of adults. Despite these numbers, many cases go undiagnosed due to limited resources and cultural misconceptions. Awareness campaigns this month aim to reduce stigma, improve early diagnosis and push for better access to treatment and support, particularly in underserved areas across the region. Another challenge for LatAm is #Dyslexia, which is also underdiagnosed, particularly in rural and underserved areas, where educational resources are limited. Bringing together leading traders, producers and investors, the event offers critical insights into the state of the metals market, including trends like the growing demand for energy transition metals. With a mix of discussions, networking and market analysis, LME Week is a platform to address supply chain challenges, price forecasts and key industry innovations. Jonathan Price from Teck Resources Limited provided some insights about M&A around copper, “The buy vs. build calculus that many mining companies are going through poses a challenge for the energy transition because we’re not enabling new capacity in that regard; we are simply moving the pieces. Another challenge in a very competitive market where everybody is looking at the same assets is how to avoid paying away all the value through the premium that you end up having to put on the table to get these deals done, so this is another challenge that we have seen.” He also contributed, “The intersection of geopolitics, metals and mining has never been more acute than today. Still, it stipulated that Hess’s CEO #JohnHess, cannot join Chevron’s board due to his interactions with OPEC, which the FTC claims could lead to price-fixing concerns. While Hess will still advise Chevron on certain matters, the FTC's decision highlights increasing scrutiny of U.S. oil executives' conduct. The Chevron-Hess acquisition has potential implications for Latin America, primarily due to Hess’s stake in a lucrative oil project in Guyana. With Chevron gaining more control over Hess's assets, the deal could influence energy investments and production strategies in South America, potentially boosting oil output and driving economic development in Guyana.
