This project in Anglesey at Menai Science Park really stands out due to its fantastic architecture. Collaborating with Faulkner Browns Architects, we created the clients desired aesthetic using our Vista structural glass system. Glass panels held in place by an aluminium channel and topped with a brightly polished stainless-steel slotted handrail brought the project to life. The incorporation of Orbis balustrades with glass infill in the stairways continued the innovative nature of the building whilst enabling natural light to disperse throughout. It's simply visually stunning, and the balustrades complement the theme well. Ever Worried About Spontaneous Glass Breakage? Here’s How to Mitigate The Risk. Glass breakage in service is everyone's worst nightmare—especially when it’s unexpected. Let’s understand the why, and how to stop it. The causes of glass breakage can vary. Damage might be one, or impact another, though one critical consideration that is often overlooked are nickel sulphide inclusions. These inclusions can lurk in the glass’s core, causing spontaneous breaks years after installation. Hardly ideal, is it? The Fix: 🔹 Heat Soak Testing (HST): “Stress-tests” glass to trigger inclusions early, so only stable panels are installed. 🔹 Laminated Glass: Even if it breaks, the interlayer holds shards in place—no glass shards dropping from height, minimised danger. While nickel sulphide is unavoidable in toughened glass, these solutions can reduce risks significantly. 👉 Want a deeper insight? Stafford Skills & Innovation Centre, a £28m project that Delta had the pleasure of being a part of in 2023. Deltas role in the project consisted of supplying and fitting: - Over 100m of our Orbis OS210 Glass infill Balustrade System and 180m of Stainless Steel Handrail to the internal stairs. - 110m of powder-coated Mono M311 Top Fix Glass infill Balustrade Systems to the atrium and terraces. - 316-grade Stainless Steel handrail to the outdoor terrace. A key consideration for the Stafford Skills & Innovation Centre project was the requirement of a flexible balustrade solution on the final flights of stairs 2 & 3.
