I am happy to share our recent published article in Dental Update with my online friends. The article delivers clinical guidance in cardiac transplantation and dentistry. The number of cardiac transplants carried out each year is increasing. With this rise in numbers, it is important that dental professionals are aware of both pre- and post-operative considerations for these patients. Special thanks go to the co-authors; Dr. Shazia Kaka, Dr. Carole Boyle and Dr. Emily Sherwin from Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust for their valuable contributions, helps and efforts. The European Society of Cardiology recommendarions regarding the elimination of all potential sources of dental sepsis at least 2 weeks prior to the procedure. 3. Category of patients who need hospital dentistry! 4. The need for antibiotic cover!! 5. Pharmacological therapies commonly used in pre-cardiac transplant patients, and their oral considerations. 6. Signs and symptoms of end stage heart failure and recommendations for dental management. 7. Dental care in the pre- and post-transplant period (Immunosuppressive regimens). 8. Pain control and anxiety (LA, conscious sedation and general anesthesia) pre- and post-cardiac transplant. 9. Corticosteroid cover!! 10.
