Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced his intention to proceed with construction of the first stretch of the A5 in early 2025 following Executive approval today. This will see the first 55kms/34 miles of the project proceed from Junction 8 (south of Strabane) to the proposed Junction 15 near Ballygawley including the westward extension of the existing A4 Dual Carriageway. The theme of the two-day conference is Planning and Governing Metropolitan Regions and Cities in the 21st century. Addressing the conference Minister O’Dowd said: "I believe that collaboration is key to creating, sustaining and planning for successful cities and metropolitan regions. Multi-agency partners have met and will continue to meet over the weekend as preparations continue ahead of Storm Ashley, the first named storm of the season, which is forecast to bring strong winds on Sunday 20 October. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for strong winds, which could cause disruption on Sunday. The warning is in place from 3am Sunday morning until midnight Sunday.
