New research from Depaul International published today shows Ukrainians fleeing the frontline are ending up on the streets. The full-scale invasion of Ukraine has led to a sharp rise in #homelessness, with almost a quarter of those sleeping rough becoming homeless as a direct consequence of being displaced during the conflict. The report, which is the most comprehensive look at homelessness in Ukraine to date, calls for the need to improve access to existing services for people sleeping rough and to ensure availability of housing as a priority. A global charity on a mission to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it.
About us
Depaul International is the parent charity of the Depaul Group, a group of charities that works across the world with a mission to end homelessness and change the lives of those affected by it. The Depaul Group comprises subsidiary charities in the UK, Ireland, Ukraine, Slovakia, the USA, France and Croatia. Our services range from providing food through low-threshold street outreach projects, facilitating access to legal, social, and healthcare services through day centres and operating emergency and long-term accommodation programmes. Last year, we supported 134,440 individuals, served 10,915,903 meals and provided 627,098 bed-nights. At the heart of the Depaul Group is a commitment to celebrating the potential in people and helping our clients to build positive, sustainable futures independent of homelessness. We work in the spirit of St Vincent de Paul, a major Catholic social reformer in 17th Century France who devoted his life to helping vast numbers of poor, sick and homeless people across Europe.

📍#Croatia At H-Garden, Depaul Croatia's therapeutic gardening programme, the production of crops is vital to helping people improve their confidence and build skills. Participants on the programme can learn how to grow crops such as mint, thyme, rosemary, turmeric and ginger. The garden is sustainable, as crops are supplemented with fertiliser and compost made from waste products from Depaul Croatia's day centre. #WorldFoodDay2024

Each year, St. John's University in New York celebrates its Founder's Week (September 20-27th) by honouring organisations who work with marginalised communities. The International Medal is given to an organisation or individual who have made a significant contribution to alleviating poverty across the globe. This year, the 2024 recipient was Famvin Homeless Alliance, for their contributions to ending homelessness via their 13 Houses Campaign. Mark McGreevy, Famvin Homeless Alliance Coordinator and President of the Depaul Group, who received the award on behalf of Famvin Homeless Alliance said: “Thank you to all of the faculty and students of St John’s University for this International Medal which recognises the grassroots work of the Vincentian Family globally. So many lives have been changed for the better as a result of their efforts.” You can find out more about the 13 Houses Campaign at https://lnkd.in/dwi2thz

"We should strive to keep our hearts open to the sufferings... of other people." Throughout his life, St Vincent de Paul believed in the intrinsic value of all people, bringing compassion, care and dignity to all those he served. The Depaul Group's mission of ending homelessness is rooted in St Vincent de Paul's spirituality and example. Supporting people and communities who are marginalised or where there is a lack of existing support is at the heart of what we do. Today, the Feast of St Vincent de Paul, is a day for staff, volunteers and trustees across the Depaul Group to reflect on these values that underpin our work.
