About us

Depaul is a charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness We exist to serve individuals and families who are at risk or caught in the spiral of homelessness, deprived of all control of their lives, when every door is closed to them. Depaul is here because they deserve help to rebuild their lives and progress to a positive future. We approach this; With compassion and a willingness to do whatever it takes no matter what. With expertise and professionalism so the most excluded homeless people get the help they deserve and are not overlooked or ignored. And we don’t stop there, we innovate when services are needed. We advocate for hard to reach groups and are willing to take risks to make sure the services exist for those experiencing homelessness. We want to end homelessness and change lives. Depaul is a cross border organisation operating 40 specialised services in 5 main areas of service provision; - Health & Rehabilitation - High Support Accommodation - Families & Young People - Prevention - Housing Depaul shares close links with the SVP as one of our founding partners but we are a separate charity addressing homelessness. Depaul Ireland has been named as one of 50 global community organisations to receive a grant of $500,000 in catalytic funding as part of the Citi Foundation’s 2024 Global Innovation Challenge, which aims to support solutions that address homelessness. Supporting people experiencing homelessness across the island of Ireland, Depaul supported over 10,000 people – including over 1,400 families – in 2023 as homelessness continued to reach unprecedented levels. Responding and adapting to the changing needs of their service users is key for the Depaul team both in Northern Ireland and the Republic. The landscape of homelessness is changing and evolving the services offered and training staff helps Depaul meet demands more effectively in Northern Ireland. Reflecting on Citi Foundation’s 2024 Global Innovation Challenge, Citi Belfast Site Head Peter Holden said: "We are delighted that Depaul is one of the three UK charities that have been awarded $500,000 to support individuals, families and communities locally. "These funds will help to enhance the important work Depaul Ireland does to support those experiencing homelessness in Northern Ireland and across the Island of Ireland. Underpinning our ethos of ‘living locally, working globally,’ the Citi Belfast team have been inspired by Depaul’s work and have proudly committed to further strengthening our relationship through added volunteer support.” https://lnkd.in/eYGeUBdk

On this EU Anti-Trafficking Day, we recognise the immense challenges survivors face, including the threat of homelessness as a direct result of their exploitation by human traffickers.  Today we are making a call out for more urgently needed support services for victims of trafficking. Earlier this year, Depaul Ireland partnered with The Passage UK to produce a groundbreaking report revealing how homelessness organisations in Ireland are increasingly coming into contact with victims of human trafficking. This collaboration highlights the urgency of what we are dealing with and the need to act. Read the report here - https://lnkd.in/e_qrsSWm Since 2023, Depaul Ireland, in partnership with statutory and NGO partners, has provided Ireland’s only accommodation service for victims of trafficking. We're committed to helping survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and security. Stand with us today - reshare to spread this message. No one should be left out in the cold this winter. Homelessness in Ireland has reached record-breaking numbers. In August, 14,500 people - including over 4,000 children from more than 2,000 families - faced the harsh reality of having no home. As the temperature drops, the need for warm shelter and meals becomes more urgent. Depaul Ireland is working to provide safety and care for those affected, but we need your help. Stand with us in the fight against homelessness. Donate today to Depaul and help provide warmth, shelter, and hope to those most in need across Ireland. https://lnkd.in/esd3NSf

It’s incredibly exciting to partner with Bank of Ireland once again and be a recipient of their Begin Together Grant. This is a two year funding which provides us with a great opportunity to develop an engagement programme for People with Lived Experience of Homelessness. Funding like this is hugely important to us to enable us to continue to evolve with the ever changing landscape of homelessness in Ireland and support our services. #WorldHomelessDay #Depaul

Today we are thrilled to announce €500,000 is being allocated to community groups across the island of Ireland, in the fifth year of the Begin Together fund, delivered in partnership with the Community Foundation Ireland.  Grants from €10,000 up to €80,000 will be distributed to 24 groups across the island of Ireland. Irish Refugee Council and Depaul Ireland have each been allocated €80,000 multi-year grants to help to fund longer term projects. The broad range of groups supported include those who are disproportionately impacted by some of the most critical issues in Ireland today.   Aine McCleary, Chief Customer Officer, Bank of Ireland, said: “Since 2020, the Begin Together Fund has been working with Community Foundation Ireland to help to make our society stronger by allocating funds to those in greatest need. This year, we have prioritised projects which build capability and foster inclusion among these under-served groups. We are delighted to allocate grants to a broad range of organisations including those supporting families living in poverty, people experiencing domestic abuse, older people and those experiencing homelessness.    “Along with 20 single year grants, this year, four multi-year grants will be awarded to organisations including Depaul and the Irish Refugee Council, who are working to support those most impacted by two of the most pressing issues we face in Ireland today. It is our hope that multi-year funding will allow these organisations some certainty as they plan to get these future-facing projects up and running.  We wish all the successful grantees well as they embark on their programmes”.
