About us

Derbyshire Healthcare is a specialist provider of children’s, learning disability, substance misuse and mental health services – across community, inpatient and other settings. We employ more than 2,800 staff providing services from several community and inpatient settings across the whole of Derbyshire. Across the county and the city, we serve a combined population of approximately one million people. The Trust was established on 1 February 2011 and later that same year we became the provider of children’s universal and specialist services for Derby city following a successful tender process. As part of the Transforming Community Services (TCS) programme, community paediatric services and substance misuse services were also transferred into the organisation from NHS Derby City. As a Foundation Trust we are required to build a membership which is as representative of the community we serve as possible. Local people are invited to become a member of the Trust, to work with us to provide the most suitable services for the local population. Members receive regular updates on our news and upcoming events. They are also represented by a Council of Governors. We have a clear vision for the Trust, underpinned by objectives that serve as the basis for decision making and forward planning. Our vision and objectives guide us in how we balance the interests of patients, the local community and other stakeholders. The Trust has a Board of Directors, sometimes known as the Trust Board. This Board has a responsibility to make the best use of financial resources and deliver the services people need, to standards of safety and quality which are agreed nationally. We are a friendly, values driven Trust and put our people first in the knowledge that an engaged and empowered workforce leads to good patient care.

  • After four years of meticulous planning and collaboration, the first of our six Making Room for Dignity projects is due to open in early September. Our older adult inpatients will be moving across Chesterfield from the Hartington Unit to the new ward at Walton Hospital. The opening of our new Bluebell Ward in Chesterfield will be a breath of fresh air for patients like Pauline, who says the biggest challenges for her as an inpatient in dormitory-style accommodation were the noise and lack of privacy. She says Bluebell Ward will be “wonderful for patients”. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eehPrEVU

  • It's that time of year where students are receiving their A-Level and GCSE results, and younger students are starting to think about what options or courses to consider for their future. Have you thought about working in mental health care? In this video (https://lnkd.in/deC6Bxs), people with lived experience of mental health describe the “huge impact” that great mental health care had on their recovery and their lives, and some of the NHS's mental health nurses explain why there’s “…no greater gift than supporting someone and seeing them prosper and flourish.” For more information on what it's like working for the NHS in mental health, learning disabilities, neurodiversity and children's services, visit the NHS England website here - https://lnkd.in/dntpb22

  • A warm welcome to our latest intake of newly qualified nurses! Many of these new Band 5 nurses joined us at our onboarding days in Derby and Chesterfield. They met the clinical managers and learned about our new Making Room for Dignity facilities, staff benefits and staff networks. We’ve had nothing but positive feedback from our new recruits. Take a look… If you’ve received your A-Level results this week, maybe you’re in a position to consider nursing as a career? Take a look at our Making Room for Dignity project and check out our current vacancies here: https://lnkd.in/efCpKvR6

  • With the release of the A-level results today, many parents and students will be experiencing anxiety. Please make an effort to be upbeat if a young person you know or care about is getting their results today. While some may be pleased that exams are finished, others may be disappointed that they did not get the scores they had hoped for, and many may be unsure of what lies ahead. Check out our website for tips and information on how to deal with this stress - https://bit.ly/4dgy04A
