At Derwent FM, we’re passionate about not only building thriving student communities but also making a positive impact in the wider communities we serve. Recently, members of our Senior Leadership Team and wider team, alongside colleagues from Places for People, Residential Management Group Limited, Leeds City Council, and Bramley Care Bears, came together to volunteer in the Bramley community in Leeds! 💪 Together, we helped to maintain and make over 14 gardens for local people who, due to various circumstances, had found it too difficult to manage their outdoor spaces. After months of planning to identify those in need, we arrived with a range of tools and a shared commitment to help. By the end of the day, these gardens were transformed into usable spaces that residents can now enjoy and maintain themselves. Continued support from Bramley Care Bears will ensure that those who need ongoing help with their gardens will receive it, keeping these spaces enjoyable and accessible. A huge thank you to everyone involved – this effort truly shows that community matters! #BecauseCommunityMatters #Volunteering #SocialImpact #MakingADifference

We’re excited to unveil our 2023/24 Annual Report, now published alongside our dedicated Environmental Social Governance Report for the very first time. That means this year we’re not only sharing the year’s audited financial performance but also our deep and broad social impact. Our mission to create thriving Communities shines through in our work, from our core and wider operations to the efforts of our Places Impact team and the Places Foundation Group charity. In the past year we: • Generated a record £334 in social value and built almost a third more homes than in 2022-23  • Retrofitted 220 homes through Government’s SHDF programme and upgraded thousands more, enhancing their energy efficiency and reducing Customer bills • Began a new 10-year partnership with Northumberland County Council to boost our Places Leisure provision and increase access and support for people in the Community • Welcomed South Devon Rural Housing Association and Origin Housing into the Group, enabling additional investment in Customers’ homes, improved local services and a stronger voice for Communities • Launched our Customer Promises across the Group to define our approach to working with Customers and ensure a consistent, best-in-class service • Proactively met a significant rise in repairs, delivering over 54,000 than were budgeted for through initiatives like property MOTs – putting us on the front foot with the quality of our homes. Richard Gregory OBE, our Chair, explained:   “The year has seen significant progress in all the business and services that make up our remarkable Group. We have risen to many challenges and continue to work with energy, passion and commitment shared right across the organisation. We won’t stop and our goal is a high-performance Customer focused organisation which can repair, renew and develop homes at scale.”   And, as Greg Reed, our Group Chief Executive Officer said:   “We’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved over the past twelve months. Like any other year it hasn’t been without its challenges. But we’ve worked tirelessly to put our Customers, Communities and People at the heart of everything we have done. In the past year we’ve generated more social value than ever before, built thousands of new homes, invested more than ever in our existing homes and heavily in our Leisure offer in our Communities across the country, demonstrating once again there is no other organisation like Places for People. Times are hard but our commitment to our social purpose remains as strong as ever – all Because Community Matters.” It's been a great year, but the work never stops. This summer we launched our ‘Time To Build’ campaign, calling on the new Government to prioritise housebuilding to ensure the right homes are built in the right places and for the right people. At Derwent FM, we're always looking for innovative ways to support sustainability and community engagement. This year, Hyndland House, one of our PBSA sites, has taken a fantastic step forward with the launch of the 2024 Swap Shop! During the 2023/2024 academic year, our students donated high-quality items they no longer needed. These products ranged from coat hangers and storage boxes to bed linen, electronics, books, and even food. We're thrilled that all these items have been shared free with our new students for the 2024/2025 academic year, providing them with essential supplies right from the start. As part of our sustainability programme at Hyndland House, we encourage our students to continue sharing and swapping items through the Swap Shop to minimise waste. The shop will be open throughout the year, and we're excited to introduce a new "Winter Warmers" feature, where students can donate, swap, and collect free winter coats. This initiative not only helps our students save money and reduce waste but also fosters a sense of community and support among them. We are proud to facilitate such impactful programs and look forward to continuing these efforts at Derwent FM. Erwin Orduz #Sustainability #StudentLiving #PBSA #DerwentFM #BecauseCommunityMatters
