Genuine, useful innovation depends on understanding customer and market. The British Geological Survey's ongoing Common Ground project is about identifying ways to unlock more value from its ground investigations data for the UK construction and environmental industries. We've engaged with experts in that field to inform the next phase of BGS' project - developing a new data service pilot. #datainnovation #groundinvestigationdata #datafoundation #engineeringgeology #geotechnicalengineering
What insight has the British Geological Survey unearthed so far in its Common Ground project? Tasked with investigating the value of ground investigation (GI) data we engaged with senior engineers, planners, academics and data experts from the national and international construction and environmental industries. The community shared important observations about how the BGS can deliver GI data, including: 👷🏾 they want BGS to focus on data foundations 👷🏽 they prefer accessing raw data and data summaries 👷🏼 they want enriched information from adjacent reports 👷🏻 data validity is super important These insights, and many more besides, will go into the next phase of the project: shaping pilot services for GI data delivery. There's still time to get involved or track the progress of the project, our article has more details. The Common Ground Project is a one-year initiative focused on enhancing the value of GI data for the UK construction and environmental sectors and is funded by the Government Office for Technology Transfer (part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology). The project is led by BGS, supported by a team of researchers and consultants from Difference Engine and economists from the Geospatial Commission. https://lnkd.in/ew2hQ4_p #groundinvestigations #groundinvestigationdata #engineeringgeology #geotechnicalengineering #groundengineering #civilengineering #hydrogeology #datainnovation #datadelivery
