Just 20% of SME entrepreneurial businesses are majority female led. At the same time, twice as many women than men think it is difficult to grow a business in the UK, indicating that many are struggling to access the funding they need to scale up. The investment industry must identify where unconscious bias could be impacting the decision process and provide more support for female founders. To deliver change, allyship will be essential and investors must actively reflect on ways which they and their funds can support female founders, and foster an open and collaborative environment where female founders are comfortable promoting their ventures. This week, we launched our trailer for Shed Seven's 30th-anniversary shows at York Museum Gardens in 2024. The worst-kept secret is that, in addition to being the Creative Director of Digifish (a York-based film and animation company celebrating 17 years in business), I am also the lead guitarist in Shed Seven, a York-based band about to celebrate its 30th anniversary. For the launch of these shows, I wanted to create a "Welcome to York" trailer, a love letter to the city I have lived in for the last 50 years. As I knew this was a great opportunity to showcase our stunning city to the thousands of people on Shed Seven's social channels. So, I am proud this morning. Not only have both shows sold out, with 8,000 tickets gone in a heartbeat. The video has been watched over 500,000 times across different social media platforms in less than a week. It has been featured in both regional and national press and media, and I have just found out it will be shown at the York Press Business Awards later this month. Not only that, but I’m very proud that because of these shows and the video thousands of people will be coming into our city next July from across the UK, bringing an estimated extra £2 million in revenue into the city of York for that one weekend alone. I want to thank everyone who took part in the making of the video. Video marketing can be a powerful tool when done with the right heart and soul, and so I'm excited by the new doors that have opened this week for Digifish.
