🤖 August is a month for technical innovation 🤖 Challenges are often opportunities in disguise. Digital i's engineering and data science teams converted the challenge of lower staffing levels in August into an opportunity for innovation and cross-collaboration. Over the past two weeks, we've hosted the company's first #hackathon in conjunction with technical industry leaders across a range of industries as well as working with several #AI experts to understand the possibilities, risks and implications of more widespread use of #generativeAI in the development space. However, this isn't the first time we've worked with leading experts in the technical world... 3 years ago we partnered with Imperial College London and their Data Sparks programme to understand how our global harmonised viewing data set could drive success for commissioners and rights holders across the industry. 🌐 British content hits the global stage 🌐 Netflix launched a record number of global British hits this year, including, but not limited to #BabyReindeer, #FoolMeOnce as well as the newest season of #Bridgerton. 📈 According to Digital i's harmonised global SVOD viewing dataset, viewing to British content across the two biggest global streamers, Netflix and Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios increased by 31% from Q2'23 to Q2'24. 🇺🇸 The biggest increases in viewing to British content were seen in the U.S. which saw the longest strike in SAG-AFTRA history in the second half of 2023, seriously affecting the rate at which Hollywood was able to produce content. ➡ Find out more by reading the article in Deadline Hollywood: https://lnkd.in/eQ2eAi6j

📈 Netflix posted strong figures at their latest quarterly earnings call 📈 👀 They cited YouTube as one of the platforms they compete with for attention, but also mentioned their intentions to grow their share of viewing. 🇬🇧 Several British titles like Bridgerton & Baby Reindeer featured in their top titles for the quarter, indicative of a general trend toward a rise in British content which Digital i's analysts will be sharing soon. 💰 But as advertising becomes an increasingly hot topic in the conversation of monetisation & streaming business sustainability, it's important to delve deeper into Netflix ad user activity. 💡 In July in the U.S. market, Netflix discontinued it's Basic (without ads) plan for new subscribers and cracked down on account-sharing, this kicked off a rapid increase in their ad-supported subscriber base. 🗓 Last week, they announced plans to phase out the ad-free Basic plan completely...
