Nice summary of some of the thought-provoking themes that emerged at yesterdays DL National Digital Conference 👍
Had a very interesting and insightful day yesterday with George Knowles at Digital Leaders "Public Services in the Age of AI" event. Mark Thompson was a great host for the day and kept the conversations flowing. The key theme that came up again and again: AI is ultimately about people, not just technology. Here are some of the standout moments that really got me thinking: Jo Miller, Director of Technology at UK Civil Services, opened with a brilliant keynote tackling the fears surrounding AI. She highlighted how the lack of trust is preventing access to the large datasets we need to make AI work better for citizens. Her key question for the audience was: “How do we handle a future that’s already here?” One of the highlights for me was Dr. Laura Gilbert CBE, Director of AI Lab at No. 10 Downing Street, who talked about making government services more human through AI. Some of the examples Laura gave of projects ongoing sounded really interesting, and I look forward to seeing the case studies of these when they are successful. Key takeaway from the day for me is that we should be looking at how AI can help take on tasks so that humans can focus on those things that require a human viewpoint. Its so important to let the specialists do the specialist work Key questions from the day: - How would you describe the current use of AI in public sector? - Where should we place the main focus for AI in public services? - Do you think about the decision or issue you are trying to fix, or is it just that we must use AI? - What should be the main priority for AI innovation in public services today? - What do you see as the main barriers to AI innovation in public sector? #DLWeek #DigitalLeaders #AI #PublicSector

Amazing work delivered by Hugh F. Williamson and Prof Sarah Hartley with the full film screening taking place at the University of Exeter tomorrow afternoon!
Pleased to share the trailer for a short documentary film I've been involved in producing together with my colleague Prof Sarah Hartley at the University of Exeter and filmmaker Tom Law. The film, Digital Animals, explores how digital technologies are being used in animal farming and where we might want this to go in the future. More information on the film and the research that it is based on can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eD6cN3jz .
