Ingenious computing and immersive careers for the next generation. Delivered by Ukie and together with Nintendo UK.

About us

The not-for-profit Digital Schoolhouse programme, together with Nintendo UK, uses play-based learning to engage the next generation of pupils and teachers with the Computing curriculum. Digital Schoolhouse is delivered by the UK games industry trade body Ukie and is supported by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Each Digital Schoolhouse is based in a school, college or university environment, and aims to work with a growing network of local primary and secondary teachers to deliver creative and cross-curricular computing lessons using play-based learning. Through this, it supports the Computing programme of study for the national curriculum in a way that leaves pupils and teachers feeling inspired about, and engaged with, computing and the wider creative digital industries. The workshops put theory into practice and help teachers embed it, with ongoing personalised support and continuing professional development (CPD). The programme has been accurately described as a ‘bridge between education and industry’.

  • With the excitement of the launch of F1 25 from our partner Electronic Arts (EA), we wanted to take the chance to thank them. Their Recycled Racers workshop, which we run based upon EA SPORTS Formula 1 game, has brought joy to thousands of children over the years while also teaching them about different types of data and how to use spreadsheets. With the workshops still going strong (and even part of our Digital Schoolhouse pilot in Nevis last week), we can't wait to bring the combination of F1 and playful computing to even more children across the world. Electronic Arts (EA) is helping us give every child a digital future. #playfulcomputing #electronicarts #f125

  • This is exactly what Digital Schoolhouse is all about. Great teachers like Dave Cross going out to new schools getting pupils excited about computing. Every child deserves a digital future. #playfulcomputing

It's nice to be able to reach beyond our normal classes, and engage with new learners about computing concepts they haven't covered before. Today I had the pleasure of delivering a Digital Schoolhouse workshop to Y5 at St Silas Primary school in Liverpool - they got to learn about the computer science behind machine code and binary to denary conversation. If you've never used the binary birthday slides to introduce the concept, you're missing a trick!

  • We're so excited to be taking the shortlisted pupils for our Creative Careers Competition to BLAST's RLCS Birmingham Major. It's great to have a partner who is so engaged in showing what different careers in esports can be, and who wouldn't want to experience the excitement of an international esports event?

  • Empowering Caribbean Educators: Digital Schoolhouse and Macmillan Education in Nevis This week, Estelle Ashman and Jo Hodge brought the power of our Max Computing series to teachers and educators in Nevis. In collaboration with Macmillan Education, they demonstrated how to create engaging, hands-on lessons that teach vital digital skills to students from grades 1-9. The focus was on practical application, showing how to transform classrooms into dynamic learning environments. With an overwhelmingly positive response, we're now exploring opportunities with other Ministries of Education to expand this program across the wider Caribbean region. The future of learning is play, and we're delighted to spread the message worldwide. #TeacherTraining #DigitalSkills #EducationInnovation #CaribbeanEducation #DigitalSchoolhouse Macmillan Caribbean

  • This month in The Playful Classroom, Programme Director of Digital Schoolhouse, Shahneila Saeed, FRSA asks for your help. For ten years, thanks to the generosity of our partners, we have helped hundreds of thousands of children learn computing in a fun and playful way. But as a not-for-profit we need you - could you, or someone you know, become a partner of Digital Schoolhouse? Could you help us help them? https://zurl.co/XVZXh #playfulcomputing

  • On #InternationalWomensDay it's important to remember some facts: 21.9% of GCSE Computer Science students in 2024 were female. 17.5% of A-level Computer Science students were female. 19.3% of students starting a Computer Science degree in 2024 were female. At Digital Schoolhouse we are trying to improve those numbers by making Computing learning fun, playful and accessible to all. We believe every child deserves a digital future.
