    When have you felt most innovative or creative in your approach to work? And how did your environment influence this? You hear a lot of talk about psychological safety - in a nutshell, it means you feel safe to speak up, to disagree openly, to take risks, and to challenge how things are done without fear of repercussions or gaslighting. For Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse staff, however, psychological safety so often feels painfully absent. ♦️ Psychological safety at work = a more open, innovative, connected work community. Creating safe spaces + structure is at the heart of all of our learning experiences. For our emerging HEI Leaders, in particular, it's a pivotal opportunity to experience a level of self-discovery that allows them to zoom in on their identity, values, and ambitions, and to zoom out and really see the context they're operating within. It's from this new vantage point that we invite participants to reimagine the leaders they will become and the impact they will create at work and beyond.     Higher Education has so much to gain from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse leaders. Empathy for those navigating multiple cultures, inclusive leadership, and a sensitivity for challenging systems that are not quite what they seem. And yet, so many potential leaders are hiding in plain sight. What's lacking is access to quality, transformative learning opportunities. So, how do we bridge the gap? Four of our StellarHE Fellows at City, University of London made it their business to find out through their collective Leadership Challenge.     Did you know that the Notting Hill Carnival boosted London's economy by £396 million? Not the headline you were probably expecting. The media stories we consume shape our perception of reality. Kudos to the Voice Newspaper for countering the usual biased reporting we've come to expect around Carnival.

We are never told how much money Carnival generates for the economy. Well, until now! 🎉✊🏾 Massive thank you to our brilliant editor and journalist Vic Motune at The Voice Media Group - for this exclusive article which reveals Carnival generates a whopping £396 million for London’s economy! The biased reporting around Carnival every year by some mainstream media outlets shows why it is so important to have diverse newsrooms and organisations. Kudos to The Voice for reporting on stuff about the Black community which is NOT reported elsewhere. The Voice Newspaper is Britain’s ONLY Black National Newspaper.     “I would recommend you have a candle, tissues, water, and that you just breathe,” says Angela Patton of her newly released documentary, Daughters, which she co-directed with filmmaker Natalie Rae. The documentary explores how families are impacted by incarceration through the eyes of a series of daughters and their fathers, and through Patton's legacy work with young people as CEO of Girls For A Change, a nonprofit that empowers Black girls in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. “I didn’t see anyone else showing up for Black girls the way that I felt that they deserve.” The film focuses on a unique event for separated families to experience a moment of togetherness despite the obstacles of the US carceral system and raises important questions about: 💔 the power of physical connection for separated families and the impact of policies that block this 💔 the parentification of young girls 💔 the impact of separation on young girls' mental health and sense of self Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/grpxUuWC What legacy are you building in your community, organisation, or sector?
