When have you felt most innovative or creative in your approach to work? And how did your environment influence this? You hear a lot of talk about psychological safety - in a nutshell, it means you feel safe to speak up, to disagree openly, to take risks, and to challenge how things are done without fear of repercussions or gaslighting. For Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse staff, however, psychological safety so often feels painfully absent. ♦️ Psychological safety at work = a more open, innovative, connected work community. Creating safe spaces + structure is at the heart of all of our learning experiences. For our emerging HEI Leaders, in particular, it's a pivotal opportunity to experience a level of self-discovery that allows them to zoom in on their identity, values, and ambitions, and to zoom out and really see the context they're operating within. It's from this new vantage point that we invite participants to reimagine the leaders they will become and the impact they will create at work and beyond. What happens when you give leaders the space and the psychological safety to explore what leadership means on their terms? 🔦 They park other people's assumptions + projections and start to focus in on their own identity, values, and ambitions. 🎯 They lean in + listen as a cohort, and support each other to navigate 'the rules of the game' with new eyes and fresh ideas. ⚡ Is your HEI ready to unlock this opportunity to support its emerging Black, Asian, and ethnically diverse leaders? Take a look at our StellarHE 2025 Programme, to discover how: https://lnkd.in/eHEFmMFm Hear from our Fellows & Sponsors: https://lnkd.in/eC2fPEFd

"There are questions, there are issues out there, and through writing I get to spend time investigating. I've got an excuse to go down rabbit holes and learn about topics that may not be salient to my day job but are important to who I am as a citizen." Activist and former Democratic candidate for Georgia governor, Stacey Abrams, beautifully captures the power of writing, enquiry, and reflection for reimagining what's possible - whether for our societies, our workplaces, or our communities. These are fundamental habits that all participants on our programmes are encouraged to build to help them step into and expand their distinctive leadership. Listen as Abrams discusses her new novel 'Rogue Justice' and her continuing quest to make democracy stronger in the United States. https://lnkd.in/e5-SU24q

The world needs more women pioneers who are advocating for the needs + opportunities of the 'many' not the 'few' across all sectors. But are we doing enough to create the conditions for their work + voices to cut through? Through our Different Women Leadership Programme (DWLP), a comprehensive, deep-dive experience launching in early 2025, we want to galvanise as many women (and their organisations) as we can to advance their development, grow their influence, and shift the leadership narrative for all women. Contact shareen@diversitypractice.com to find out more.
In celebration of Women's Equality Day, we're highlighting last fall's Rolling Stone Magazine feature by Lorena O'Neil of the women pioneers in the AI space — including Dr. Joy Buolamwini, Dr. Rumman Chowdhury, Timnit Gebru, Safiya Noble, Ph.D., and Seeta Peña Gangadharan. Higher Education has so much to gain from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse leaders. Empathy for those navigating multiple cultures, inclusive leadership, and a sensitivity for challenging systems that are not quite what they seem. And yet, so many potential leaders are hiding in plain sight. What's lacking is access to quality, transformative learning opportunities. So, how do we bridge the gap? Four of our StellarHE Fellows at City, University of London made it their business to find out through their collective Leadership Challenge. Read our insights article to discover how Kiren Chima, Shannon Precilla, Lauren Regan (SFHEA), and Mohan Sodhi are bridging the opportunity gap for lower grade staff, and to find out more about our 2025 StellarHE cohort: https://lnkd.in/gsHSN2W2 Are you ready to ignite a fire for designing the organisational cultures and systems you want to see in your HEI? #StellarHE #Diversity #DiverseLeaders #HigherEducation #EDI #Progression #Opportunity

Did you know that the Notting Hill Carnival boosted London's economy by £396 million? Not the headline you were probably expecting. The media stories we consume shape our perception of reality. Kudos to the Voice Newspaper for countering the usual biased reporting we've come to expect around Carnival.
Happy Carnival Monday! 🎉🎉🎉 Every year we are bombared with news stories that tell us how many people were arrested at Carnival. We are never told how many people had a wonderful time. We are never told how much money Carnival generates for the economy. Well, until now! 🎉✊🏾 Massive thank you to our brilliant editor and journalist Vic Motune at The Voice Media Group - for this exclusive article which reveals Carnival generates a whopping £396 million for London’s economy! The biased reporting around Carnival every year by some mainstream media outlets shows why it is so important to have diverse newsrooms and organisations. Kudos to The Voice for reporting on stuff about the Black community which is NOT reported elsewhere. The Voice Newspaper is Britain’s ONLY Black National Newspaper. See you on di road! 🤗💃🏾🎉 Buy a copy or read the article online: https://lnkd.in/eb2tnXyu

The magic happens when they seek you out for who you are, not what they presume or dictate you should be. Show them that who you are is at the heart of how you lead, so that the right opportunities can find you.
I want to give a shout out to all of the executives at NBCUniversal, because the first thing they did was tell me to be me. This opportunity wasn’t nothing but a chance for me to show the world what it’s supposed to look like when you put the right person in the right environment. Sports, entertainment, the globe, this is what I do. I do it every day.

“I would recommend you have a candle, tissues, water, and that you just breathe,” says Angela Patton of her newly released documentary, Daughters, which she co-directed with filmmaker Natalie Rae. The documentary explores how families are impacted by incarceration through the eyes of a series of daughters and their fathers, and through Patton's legacy work with young people as CEO of Girls For A Change, a nonprofit that empowers Black girls in her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. “I didn’t see anyone else showing up for Black girls the way that I felt that they deserve.” The film focuses on a unique event for separated families to experience a moment of togetherness despite the obstacles of the US carceral system and raises important questions about: 💔 the power of physical connection for separated families and the impact of policies that block this 💔 the parentification of young girls 💔 the impact of separation on young girls' mental health and sense of self Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/grpxUuWC What legacy are you building in your community, organisation, or sector?
