Ever heard of visualisation for anxiety relief? 🌿 It’s a simple yet powerful way to help your child shift from anxious thoughts to calm, positive imagery. One easy exercise is to guide them through imagining a “safe place” in their mind. It could be a beach, a forest, or their favourite spot at home. Encourage them to picture every detail—the colours, sounds, and how they feel in that space. Just a few minutes of this can help calm their mind and body. 🧘♀️ Try it today! Read our blog post to get 3 visualisation exercises to use.

Ease Your Child’s Anxiety with Progressive Muscle Relaxation Does your child struggle with physical tension when they’re feeling anxious? A simple technique called Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) can help them manage those feelings by focusing on relaxing one muscle group at a time. PMR works by tensing and then slowly releasing different muscles, helping your child understand what it feels like to be both tense and relaxed. Studies have shown that PMR can significantly reduce anxiety in children and improve their ability to calm down during stressful moments (Behaviour Research and Therapy Journal, 2023). To get started, guide your child to sit or lie down somewhere comfortable. Have them focus on tensing and releasing each muscle group, starting from their toes and moving upwards. Encourage slow, deep breaths as they progress. You can incorporate PMR into bedtime routines to help your child unwind or use it in moments when their anxiety is high. Even 5 minutes can make a big difference! Source: Behaviour Research and Therapy Journal (2023). The Effectiveness of Progressive Muscle Relaxation in Reducing Anxiety in Children.

How Screen Time Affects Childhood Anxiety: New Insights Have you noticed your child becoming more anxious after long periods of screen time? You’re not alone. Recent research shows a strong link between excessive screen use and heightened anxiety in children. A recent study published by JAMA Pediatrics found that children who spend more than two hours a day on screens are more likely to show signs of anxiety. The study points to overstimulation and the pressures from social media as key contributors. This can cause kids to feel overwhelmed, leading to more anxiety over time. But there’s good news. You can help by setting clear boundaries on screen time. Start small : - try screen-free meals - encourage breaks during screen use - suggest outdoor play or reading - create a bedtime routine that doesn’t include screens Simple steps like these can make a big difference. I’ve found that even a slight reduction in screen time has helped my own child feel calmer and less anxious. Why not try a tech-free evening this week and see if it helps? Source: JAMA Pediatrics.
