Dover District Council (DDC), Veolia UK, National Highways, Port of Dover, DFDS and P&O Ferries are working together to help address the huge amounts of litter discarded on one of the main routes into #Dover - with a joint awareness campaign being piloted for the first time. In 2024, Veolia, on behalf of DDC, cleared over 23,000kgs (2.3 tonnes) of #litter and debris from the dual carriageway between the Duke of York and Whitfield roundabouts. The Port of Dover attracts 2 million #freight vehicles and 1.3 million #tourist vehicles each year, all of which use the district’s high-speed #roads to access the #port, and the clearance cost of roadside litter (and related road closures) has a big impact on residents, visitors and taxpayers. Not only does it look unsightly, discarded rubbish can endanger #motorists and #wildlife too. Any high-speed road clean-up requires detailed planning to minimise the disruption of road closures and delays to traffic - while ensuring the safety of operatives undertaking this work. The ‘We care’ campaign - targeting drivers who use the A2 route - will take place over the summer, following a planned clean-up this month. Poster packs are also being distributed to local businesses to enlist their support for the campaign. Read the full press release: https://lnkd.in/enVRctAt

Exciting news! Next week, we’re presenting at CIEEM’s Spring Conference and revealing how we created Kent’s first Habitat Bank. Along with our good friend Stefanie Bramley, we’re taking you from baseline to Habitat Bank and discussing each part of the process, including site selection and learned best practices. Chalksole will be crucial in unlocking opportunities for developers across the South East, while also connecting parcels of protected habitat and supporting the natural environment. A strong collaboration with our fantastic client John Newbury, as well as the team at Dover District Council, this project is a testament to the real opportunities that BNG is creating across the country. Working in communications for a local authority means that every day is different, and you get to meet and work with so many specialists in areas ranging from planning to housing to major projects and the environment. Today was no exception. For International Women’s Day I caught up with three amazing women who are working on The Bench Building project, the brand new education, creative arts and business centre that is currently going up in Bench Street, #Dover. Ellie Farlow MRICS is a Project Manager for AtkinsRéalis and Jenny Coller is a Project Manager at Dover District Council, while Liz Gibney is a Partner at L E P | Lee Evans Partnership LLP Architects. The Bench Blog profiles their careers, their work and their aspirations. Please grab a cuppa, have a read and be inspired! https://lnkd.in/empzSZsF With regards Amanda Baker (DDC Communications team) International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. #IWD2025 #internationalwomensday2025 #thebench #benchblog #STEM #STEMcareers
