DPD wins at the National Sustainability Awards! At a glittering ceremony at the London Marriott Hotel last night, DPD beat off stiff competition from four other companies to top the Green Fleet category at the prestigious National Sustainability Awards. We were the only parcel carrier to win on the night and it marks the third year in a row we've picked up an award at the event. Other high-profile winners last night included E.ON, Octopus Energy, AXA, Coventry Building Society, and even Liverpool Football Club. At the event, hosted by comedian Zoe Lyons, judges praised our "passion, innovation and focus on sustainable final-mile delivery." DPD's fleet of electric vehicles is nearly 4,000 strong and growing by the day. We're on a mission to be net zero by 2040, and we're delighted that our efforts to build a more sustainable fleet have been recognised. CEO Elaine Kerr had this to say: "DPD are delighted to have won this important award. This is the 16th award in sustainability we've won since the start of 2021, and the fourth this year alone. It's an incredible endorsement of our journey to become more sustainable and independent recognition that we are a leader in sustainable delivery in our industry."

Last month we announced our latest autonomous delivery robot, Luna, who is already hard at work in Lincoln! She's become such a celebrity among the locals that she paid a special visit to Grimoldby Primary School after one of the children was fascinated by her. Year 6 student Riley started making his own toy delivery robots after hearing about Luna, so DPD arranged a special visit to amaze Riley and the other kids. Luna spent the day at the school along with a BBC Look North TV crew. Not only did the children love her, but so did the grown-ups, as BBC Radio Lincolnshire said she was a future star for Strictly! Our robots are not only an innovation in parcel delivery, but are helping us in our driver to be net zero by 2040. Look out for more robots across the country soon!

We are delighted to have won two awards at last night’s National Courier Awards. At the glittering event in the City of London, hosted by the Institute of Couriers (IOC), DPD took home the ‘Collaboration Award’ and a ‘Superhero Award’. Judges honoured us with the Collaboration Award for our work in helping one of our delivery robots make friends with a local guide dog, Amelia. Earlier this year, after Amelia was startled by one of our intrepid delivery robots, we reached out to the dog’s owner, David, after he posted about the incident on Facebook. We arranged to have a ‘getting-to-know-you’ session at one of our depots, where Amelia got used to walking alongside the robot. After a bit of training and a few treats, the pair were walking together like old friends. The Superhero Award was given to one of our drivers, Anthony Tilley, who rescued a lady and her child from a crashed car. The mother. Brooke, had injured her ankle and was struggling to get her child out of the car, which was billowing smoke. When he came across the sight, Anthony didn’t hesitate to pull over and help the two to safety. We’re delighted that these heartwarming stories of our people and robots going above and beyond in their local communities have been recognised by the Institute of Couriers. Pictured: Anthony and Brooke, who are now a couple and attended the ceremony together.

DPD is helping the RSPB to restore Pulborough Brooks. Our mission to be more sustainable means more than just transitioning to electric vehicles and using cleaner fuels – we're also actively supporting our local communities through environmental restoration projects. We recently pledged £50,000 from our Eco Fund to the RSPB to help with their wetland restoration at Pulborough Brooks, situated in the Arun Valley. This wetland site is in desperate need of track improvements to allow staff and volunteers to carry out essential maintenance and assist in the management of grazing animals – but it also requires significant upgrades to water control structures to improve climate resilience. Watch what happened when the team recently visited Pulborough Brooks... https://lnkd.in/eUksHDsn Also listen to our latest podcast where we spoke to RSPB about the history of Pulborough Brooks and our partnership with them: https://lnkd.in/es9gNfRR Due to climate change, the UK is experiencing more intense and sustained periods of rainfall. 2023 was one of the eleven wettest years since records began in 1836, with flooding being a significant issue for many areas. Wetlands function like a sponge, helping to absorb this extra water and releasing it slowly to allow water filtering to reduce pollution, and maintaining ideal habitats for nesting birds. We're delighted to have been able to support the RSPB in restoring this habitat. This isn't the first time we've supported them, either, as last year we also donated £90,000 to the RSPB for a conservation project in Nottinghamshire. By supporting these methods of environmental restoration and conservation DPD is proud to help our communities become more sustainable. Our autonomous delivery robots are coming to Lincoln! In 2022 we launched an exciting new innovation: small delivery robots that operate completely independently in Milton Keynes. The trial was such a success that we began deploying them at other sites – and we're delighted to announce our Lincoln depot at St Modwens Park will be the next! The robots, which have a battery life of up to 12 hours and can deliver within a mile radius of the depot, operate autonomously once they have completed the mapping process, during which the robot is fully supervised and controlled by remote control. DPD parcel recipients in Witham St Hughs will receive an SMS when the robot is outside their property and can then use a secure one-time pin code to open the robot and access their parcel. Once the compartment is closed, the robot will either continue to its next delivery or return to the depot. The robots can complete up to 30 deliveries a day. If you live in the area, keep an eye out for them – you might just be getting your next delivery from the future!

Our Dundee depot has long been a supporter of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in their region, having fundraised for them multiple times in the past. Now the RNLI has managed to secure an incredible donation from DPD’s community fund: £50,000! The donation will go towards refurbishing three ‘D’ class lifeboats in Scotland, England, and Wales. DPD paid a special visit to the RNLI at Broughty Ferry and presented a cheque to the RNLI’s fundraising team.  DPD is committed to giving back to our local communities, and the team in Dundee have been supporters of the RNLI for a long time, so we are delighted to have donated £50,000 towards their lifeboat refurbishments.

Today is World Cleanup Day! ♻️ Every year World Cleanup Day Official aims to energise 5% of the world's population in collecting waste, wherever they are. DPD takes sustainability seriously and we're always committed to giving back to our communities, so we've been busy at our depots, in our offices, and in our local areas doing our bit to make the world a bit cleaner. Our team in Dagenham couldn't wait for today, however, and so got a head-start by going on a litter pick yesterday! If you look very closely, you might even spot one of our electric vehicles in the background – because our commitment to being clean especially includes our delivery practices. Learn about how else we're being sustainable at green.dpd.co.uk
