We’re delighted to share the latest chapter in our video series about our operations - chapter 3 is all about #biomass handling and generating power. 🌿 ⚡ Drax Power Station was once the largest coal-fired power station in Western Europe. It now has four 660 megawatt units running on sustainably sourced, renewable biomass, which generate power for millions of homes across the UK. We’re always working to optimise our supply chain and to make it as energy efficient and low-carbon as possible. 🌿 Some quick facts about our biomass supply chain include... 👇 🚢 While shipping offers the least carbon intensive means of transporting sustainable #biomass, we’re always looking at ways to decarbonise our supply chain further. For example, as members of the Smart Green Shipping Alliance, we’re exploring innovations like wind-assisted shipping. 🛤️ Using rail rather than road to transport biomass pellets to Drax Power Station saves around 270,000 truck journeys and more than 32,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
