New research from Drug Science and Cannabis Industry Council reveals that prescribing medical cannabis for chronic pain could save the NHS nearly £4 billion annually, while improving patient health outcomes. 🌿 The study demonstrated significant savings through reduced use of other prescription drugs, fewer medical appointments, and lower spending on alternative treatments. Notably, medical cannabis passes the UK’s NICE test as a cost-effective intervention for the NHS. 💊 These findings present a compelling economic case for prescribing medical cannabis on the NHS, which could expand treatment access for the millions of people suffering from chronic pain.💡 📖 Explore the full findings: https://lnkd.in/dtnRVygK

#DidYouKnow: In the UK, more than 40,000 healthcare professionals (HCPs) are eligible to prescribe medical cannabis, yet only about 100 (0.25%) currently do so. 🔎 A recent study published in Drug Science, Policy & Law explored HCPs’ knowledge, confidence, and concerns about medical cannabis prescribing, as well as their personal experiences and attitudes towards legalisation. Among the key findings, HCPs who received medical cannabis training reported significantly higher perceived knowledge and confidence in prescribing, as well as a stronger recognition of its therapeutic value, compared to untrained HCPs. https://lnkd.in/dbeCWQu8
