In light of the recent appointment of the new Labour government in the UK, David Hills, director of DSDHA was asked to contribute to The Architecture Foundation Supporters Column, to comment on the housing delivery plans for the UK, provide reflections on the past and suggestions for alternative forms of housing plans. ‘Like many practices founded around the turn of the millennium, DSDHA benefitted from the previous Labour Government’s major capital investment in education and childcare. Projects, such as Hoyle Early Years Centre, the Foundation Unit for Canon Popham Church of England Primary & Nursery School, and William Bellamy’s Children’s Centre helped us to establish, sustain and grow our practice – but they were also symbolic of a time when the government was seen to be supporting architects and actively invested in UK’s communities’ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eBdecXSH

The City is our Client. Architecture, landscape, urban design and spatial research. Based in London.
About us
We are an architecture, urban design and spatial research studio. More than bricks and mortar, our projects are about people. Our work spans from crafting beautiful and sustainable buildings, welcoming landscapes and whole new neighbourhoods, through to writing the brief that will shape how a space might be used long into the future. Our aim is to foster positive change in the built environment and to empower communities, creating social value through collaboration and meaningful engagement. Using our intelligence and insight, and by deploying our range of skills to add value and deliver more, we bring projects to life and design them to evolve after completion. Above all, we see beyond boundaries to seek opportunities that bring wider benefits to all. Known for our innovative buildings, high-profile urban strategies and widely-acclaimed research, we have been awarded 19 RIBA Awards, nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, and also shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize.

Last Saturday with our Senior Associate Isabel Moreira conducting a tour at Norton Folgate 👏
Great morning spent on the walking tour organised by The Architecture Foundation for #NortonFolgate. It’s brilliant to share with others the experience of working on such a special scheme and DSDHA's design approach for 16 Blossom Street. Hope everyone has enjoyed the tour! We are incredibly proud of the the Norton Folgate team who have won two awards at the BCIA Awards last week! Resulting from hard work, dedication and multiple threads of collaboration. We are looking forward to seeing what's next to come for Norton Folgate. If you would like a tour, The Architecture Foundation will be hosting a guided tour on 19th October, tickets here: https://lnkd.in/emdjjNF4 David Hills Michael Breen Isabel Moreira
Congratulations to the Norton Folgate team, who took home the Commercial Property Project of the Year and Community Impact Initiative of the Year at last night's BCIA Awards! Judges commented that "The intent of the project, it's execution, the complexity of the old and new buildings interlinked with one another, and sensitivity of how that responded to the local area was outstanding. The project sets a great example of how commercial property development can go wider than the client requirements and benefit the community too. The consideration of material use through to skills development made this project stand out." Former DSDHA Part I student and Architecture and Disability Activist Poppy Levison has been shortlisted for the RIBA Journal Rising Stars 2024! 🌟It’s been such a pleasure to have Poppy at DSDHA for the past two years, where she has excelled in her role. During her time with us, she co-authored ‘Retrofitting Cultural Infrastructure’ as part of The Future Observatory Policy Fellowship, worked on a placemaking strategy for Edgware Road for the Portman Estate, Church Commissioners and Marble Arch BID, and taught alongside Deborah Saunt at the The London School of Architecture , as a Design Think Tank Leader for ‘LSA as Civic Agency’ and ‘The City Post Policing’. Poppy is currently at the Royal College of Art undertaking her Part II studies whilst continuing to grow her practice. We wish her the best of luck in all future endeavours and can’t wait to see what she does next. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e4Cs4v92

It was great to be part of the Open City tours for #NortonFolgate recently. Specifically to talk about DSDHA’s 16 Blossom Street which I had the honour to work on over the last 6 years with such a great team – client, architects, consultants, and contractors – and part of a masterplan with a rich variety of buildings and public realm offer. More sites and tours for Open House Festival 2024, Michael Breen from DSDHA was on site at Norton Folgate last Saturday, talking through 16 Blossom Street and Blossom Yard, which also hosted an exhibition on site for the masterplan
It was an honour on Saturday to give Open City tours around the remarkable #NortonFolgate. Part of AHMM's overall masterplan, DSDHA's 16 Blossom Street has been a big part of my life for the past decade, and to see the buildings and public realm begin to come to life with people again is very special. We are excited to announce that our plans for the redevelopment of 100 Chalk Farm Road have been unanimously approved by Camden Council. The most recent addition to Regal Students, the development, designed by DSDHA, will comprise 264 student bedrooms, 30 affordable homes, nearly 11,000 sq ft ground floor commercial space, and new public realm enhancements, located adjacent to the Grade II-listed Roundhouse, a renowned live performance venue. In keeping with our wider sustainability strategy, the project will target BREEAM Outstanding and aims to be one of the first UK PBSA projects to be accredited WELL Platinum. Autonomous AI, non-human beings, robots and dark spaces. Have a read at Anne Wynne's postcard published in RIBAJ Anne is an Associate at DSDHA. In 2022, she was shortlisted for the MJ Long prize for Excellence in Practice for her work on the retrofit of the National Youth Theatre
Anne Wynne sends a postcard from Pierre Huyghe’s Liminal exhibition in Venice and sees a link between the way the films define conditions in which something can happen as do those architects who see their work as the background https://ow.ly/yJfs50T9nxk
