Bright and early this morning (well early-ish!), our Director DebDeborah Topping posted about the PSNI fine and the fact that their representation to the Information Commissioner's Office didn't change their view. In fact, the ICO stated the fine would have been higher if they were not public sector. I remember many years ago a hospital being fined £125k for publishing staff details in a hidden table on a spreadsheet - an that was when fines were capped at £500k. There are lessons to be learnt here about disclosures and checking them before releasing. https://lnkd.in/eedB-5ta

I see the PSNI appeal/representations to the ICO of the proposed fine of £750k for the data breach has failed. It's an expensive budget hit to a crucial public sector service that reminds us to check before disclosing information. I do agree that, for the reasons outlined, the breach caused fear to the staff of PSNI.
