My time as a Social Media Intern for Durham University Department of English Studies taught me so many skills that I bring into my current role as a Graduate Ambassador. It was such a great opportunity!
Many of our students work part-time alongside their studies in University departments, benefiting from paid employment whilst also gaining valuable work experience and developing their skills. A fantastic achievement by Durham University as a whole, with our own Department also placed in the Top 🔟 in this latest UK league table. This complements our performance in other rankings (4️⃣th for English Literature in both the Complete University Guide and The Guardian University Guide).
Exciting News! We are thrilled to announce that we've been ranked 5th in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025! 🎉 In the same Guide we're also shortlisted for University of the Year and runner up in University of the Year for Graduate Employment. Thank you to our dedicated staff, brilliant students, and supportive community for making this possible. Read more about our league table rankings: https://brnw.ch/21wMUjQ #DUinspire

Mother naked! 😳 It sounds like the makings of a comedy sketch, but is actually the title of a new novel by Glen James Brown, which will be publicly launched tonight at Collected Books. The story was inspired by an event that took place 600 years ago in Durham Cathedral, which was shared in 2014 by our Records of Early English Drama North East team here in Durham University English Studies. It's fascinating (and sometimes funny) to see the unexpected ways literature research can generate new forms of creativity in response to our heritage. In the wake of far right riots in Britain, and amid a US election campaign in which race is, once again, at the front of the agenda, it seems timely to revisit Shakespeare's Othello. Ahead of Elysium Theatre's production that will tour the North East and North from September to October, we asked director Jake Murray for an insight into their process, and discussed why a play like this would be an ideal entry point for anyone seeing Shakespeare for the first time: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8CpfZkp Find out more about Elysium Theatre Company's Othello and book tickets via: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e_2mEfen
