About us

The Foreign Affairs Society (FAS) is a dynamic and inclusive organization at Durham University that aims to bridge the gap between esteemed professionals and inquisitive students by facilitating conversations on world affairs and diplomacy. Through diverse events, workshops, and networking opportunities, FAS aims to empower students with the knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of global politics. By hosting close-knit discussions with experienced professionals, FAS hopes to keep its members apprised of the latest developments in the field. Additionally, FAS will promote the opportunity for members to share their opinions on current political developments, informing other members of the student body of the information that they have engaged with. With a focus on fostering interdisciplinary understanding and intellectual growth, FAS aims to provide a supportive platform for students from all degree backgrounds to engage in thought-provoking conversations and share ideas and thoughts on the impactful world of international relations. Join the Foreign Affairs Society today and embark on a journey of intellectual curiosity and impactful connections that will shape your future as a global citizen! Join us for our last event of Epiphany Term! We are delighted to announce this partnership with London-based NGO, The Balfour Project! We are privileged to be joined by two speakers being flown into the UK from the West Bank, Nidal Younis and Owde Hathaleen, who will delve into our topic of the week "Eyes On The West Bank: A Rise in Settler Violence in Palestinian Territories". 🇵🇸 They will be joined by Lara Bird-Leakey, a member of the Balfour Project Executive Committee, lawyer, and current Ph.D. researcher at Kings College London specialising in UK policy and international humanitarian law. The Balfour Project works to acknowledge Britain’s historical role in shaping 20th and 21st-century Palestine/Israel, support Palestinians and Israelis in building a peaceful future, and work for the British Government's recognition of the State of Palestine. As with all of our events, we encourage attendees to approach topics sensitively and in such a way as to encourage full, open-ended, and candid discussion. The panel event is open to both members and non-members!💚Join us for an evening of insightful dialogue and wonderful food prepared by Syrian women in the local community!🌟 Sign up here! -> https://lnkd.in/eG2Jm_d8
