Dyson Farming

Over the last couple of weeks myself and the team have had the pleasure of being involved with the Tractors into Schools. The initiative offers an engaging and hands-on way for students to connect with food and farming. Dyson Farming visited two local schools: Nocton and Dunston where every class and year group had a session. Pupils got to ask questions about farming, our careers, interact with different types of cereal crops that we grow as well as sit inside one of the tractors. A thanks to LAS for running this initiative which has this year lead to 31 schools, nurseries and SEN provisions and a total of 2,926 students being reached within Lincolnshire communities. It was so lovely to see excitement and enthusiasm at our attendance and instil some context into where some of their favourite foods come from, how the crops are grown and how we look after them. #education #schools #tractorsintoschools #lincolnshire #events #dysonfarming

We are hosting a CPD opportunity at our Nocton farm in Lincolnshire on 27 March, giving teachers the tools to bring real-life examples to the A-level Geography and Environmental Science curriculums. The day will be led by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) who will explore food, farming and natural environment through their new AHDB-funded curriculum linked resources. For local schools, this CPD session will give you the opportunity to become familiar with the farm and explore the possibility of future school visits. Come along to meet the LEAF team, develop your knowledge, network with other teachers and take a tour of the farm. See how we farm in harmony with the environment with the success of projects such as Dunston Beck and the management of the ancient Nocton Wood. ENVIRONMENT UPDATE Did you know willow is a key early food source for pollinators? 🐝 Catkins growing on the trees offer pollen and nectar to early-flying pollinators such as butterflies, bees, moths and flies. This then provides a food source for birds, aquatic life and some small mammals.
