Important Announcement Regarding Dyspraxia Foundation Dear Community, We write to you today with heavy hearts but with utmost transparency and respect. It is with profound regret that we must announce the closure of the Dyspraxia Foundation. After much consideration, and in light of enormous long-standing financial challenges, the Board of Trustees has made the difficult decision to cease operations. This decision was not made lightly, and it comes after exhaustive efforts to sustain our mission and serve those in need. Despite appointing a new CEO in October, Lucy Owen, who has worked tirelessly and joined with big aspirations for the Dyspraxia Foundation and the dyspraxic community, the current financial climate within the third sector has sadly proven too great a barrier to overcome for the charity. We understand the impact our closure may have on the individuals and communities we have supported over the decades. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all of our supporters, donors, volunteers, and partners who have stood by us and shared in our mission to create a society in which dyspraxia is not a barrier to opportunity and fulfilment. Research project Please find below information around a research project we have been contacted about: 'I'm a mature student at University of Strathclyde in Glasgow studying for a Master of Research in Physical Activity and Health. I'm also hypermobile (HSD) and living with ADHD, dyspraxia and Lipoedema. I would be grateful if you would consider participating in my study. It will take around 30 minutes to complete. Studies have shown that neurodivergent people, dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism etc. are around 50% more likely to be hypermobile which may cause issues with physical activities. I'm looking for women living in the UK who may not be very physically active as they would like to be, and live with generalised joint hypermobility or hypermobility spectrum disorder or hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome and /or neurodivergent conditions such as dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism. There are some exclusions which include osteoporosis, asthma, pregnancy, wheelchair user, medications for depression/anxiety, treatment or currently being treated for PTSD of under treatment by psychiatrist or psychologist. If you are unsure if you have hypermobility, use the picture on the top right below to do a check. Follow the QR code on the picture or use the link below. Thank you for your help. https://lnkd.in/eKmy7Ehz' #Dyspraxia #DCD #research

EXCITING NEWS! Charis Gambon, who has been supporting the Foundation over the years in a variety of different ways has been nominated for the National Diversity Awards and we and she would be so grateful for your vote. If you would like to vote please can you follow this link https://lnkd.in/eaU9xVvv Charis has written a small bit about her nomination that you can read below; 'The National Diversity Awards are the UK’s most prestigious diversity event, celebrating the achievements of grass roots communities and individuals. The awards were started in 2012. I have been nominated for my work with the Dyspraxia Foundation over the last two years in the form of youth champion, fundraising £320, becoming the first editor and opening the Warwickshire local adult social group. I am also volunteering with Head Up as a mentor for a young individual with dyslexia. I attended a learning and development session with City Year Uk where I discussed my dyspraxia and 76% of attendees stated they had learnt something new. I also attended the Shropshire dyspraxia group where I discussed my experiences with dyspraxia with youth and parents. Being nominated for the awards means a lot to me as it demonstrates that as someone with dyspraxia I can make a difference to society. It also demonstrates that people with dyspraxia are not “useless” or “lazy” as often stereotyped. I hope to provide a positive story for the community.'

RESEARCH PROJECT For those aged 11-16years of age 'We are two postgraduate students at the University of Edinburgh conducting a study on measuring and understanding depression in neurodivergent young people using a new screener. The new depression screener we are testing has been co-produced by neurodivergent young people, as depression often manifests differently in neurodivergent youth, with most established screeners failing to incorporate their experiences. We are looking for neurodivergent teenagers (11- 16 years old) with or without a depression diagnosis to take part in our study along with one of their parents. The study involves the young person and one parent completing our screener over two zoom call sessions four weeks apart. If you are interested in participating, please contact us via email: i.k.g.steinthorsdottir@sms.ed.ac.uk'
