Aviation is vital for Europe. The Single Aviation Market has enabled millions of European citizens and businesses to connect with one another and with the wider world. A4E airlines contribute 4% of EU GDP and support 12.2 million jobs. Ahead of a new term for the European Commission and the European Parliament, the CEOs of the 17 major European airline groups, representing over 80% of European air traffic, have come together to write an open letter. In it they restate their firm commitment to Europe, continuing to make their contribution to keeping Europe connected, making aviation more sustainable and promoting innovation and growth. They have called for policymakers and the industry to join forces to overcome the considerable challenges ahead to deliver a future of flying that is connected, dependable, modern, more sustainable and which remains available to all. We were delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and Her Excellency the British High Commissioner to Malta, to the easyJet Engineering Malta facility, as part of the four-day Royal visit to mark the 60th anniversary of Malta’s independence and celebrate the country's shared heritage and continuing collaboration with the UK.   During a tour of the facility, their Royal Highnesses heard about the incredible work the easyJet Engineering team do to keep easyJet’s fleet safely maintained.

easyJet’s engineering and maintenance fleet is going electric. Thanks to an ongoing fleet renewal programme for its engineering and maintenance vehicles at several of its key bases across the UK and Europe easyJet is firmly on its way to making a saving of 54 tonnes of CO2e per year*   The vehicles which have been rolled out and are in use at Berlin Brandenburg, London Luton, Bristol and Liverpool Airport will replace traditional petrol and diesel-powered vehicles across easyJet’s E&M operations – with more electric vans expected to be deployed across other airports at which point 80% of easyJet’s bases will be using fully electric maintenance vehicles.   This small but critical step will help easyJet further reduce the impact of its ground operations whilst constantly continuing to try and find new ways to do this every day through the integration of operational efficiencies including fleet renewal both for aircraft and maintenance vehicles as well as fleet optimisation through various new technologies.   *Figures based on FY23 carbon emissions from engineering fleet.  Read more about the story here: https://lnkd.in/eXZ_k8Gc #Aviation #Airside #RaceToNetZero
