We heard something terrifying about Halloween. Millions of pumpkins are bought but never eaten. But pumpkin is a delicious, versatile ingredient! It’s why Hubbub have spent the last decade on a pumpkin-saving mission, trying to make pumpkin eating as popular as pumpkin carving, with their annual ‘Eat Your Pumpkin’ campaign. 🎃 Craft first, and cook later - double the fun from a single pumpkin 🎃 Read more: https://lnkd.in/ekhE6QyT #EatingBetter #Pumpkin #EatYourPumpkin #Hubbub #Halloween #PumpkinCarving #EatMorePlants

Eating Better alliance partner, UK Health Alliance on Climate Change has published an evidence-based policy report: Plant-powered Planet: Building a healthy & sustainable food system. The report was produced in collaboration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), The UK Kidney Association, and Plant-Based Health Professionals UK. Andrew Stark, Eating Better's Senior Research and Policy Manager said: "Plant-powered Planet is an important contribution in connecting the dots between our health and the food we eat. It outlines how an increase in fruit and veg consumption and production can deliver multiple benefits for our health, our environment and our producers. Healthcare systems are a key part of our food environment and an important tool in making healthy and sustainable diets a reality across the UK, as set out in the public procurement action (https://lnkd.in/gVSRzdfr) in our Better by Half Roadmap." Yesterday National Vegetarian Week, organised by The Vegetarian Society, ended after a week of inspiring people to swap out some of their meat for a vegetarian meal. Richard McIlwain, Chief Executive, the Vegetarian Society: “The 2024 National Vegetarian Week campaign begins on 1st October, timed to coincide with World Vegetarian Day, when people around the world will be encouraged to think about whether they need meat in their diet. This year’s theme is Mix It Up – encouraging people to ‘have a go’ and whether they swap out meat in one meal or across all seven days – we intend to celebrate their efforts. As let’s face it - all journeys start with a single step! Indeed, Eating Better’s 2024 public attitudes survey illustrates this point perfectly, with a whopping 76% of people already stating they don’t eat meat every day and 61% of people willing to cut down their meat consumption even further, as a result of concerns around animal welfare, carbon emissions and the cost of meat. And so, we have both a receptive audience and an ever growing range of great meat-free options to experiment with - whether traditional like tofu, beans and lentils or the ever improving plant based ‘meats’.” Just because the week is over, doesn't mean the idea cannot remain. Swapping out a few meals a week for vegan or vegetarian, and making sure the meat and dairy you consume is produced in a nature-friendly way to high animal welfare standards is a great way for individuals to work towards a healthy and sustainable food system in the UK. #EatingBetter #VegetarianSociety #Vegetarian #BetterByHalfRoadmap
