The event will bring together some of the best practices in the industry. The Architectural Practice of the Year category will recognise creative approaches to projects and innovative solutions to difficult problems. We are incredibly proud to be nominated for this award; it is a testament to our team’s hard work, dedication and commitment to energy conscious design and sustainability. Thank you to the Building Awards for this nomination. We look forward to attending the award ceremony at The Grosvenor House Hotel. ECD Website Update: Montgomerie Park Primary School is now on the ECD website. We worked on this project as Passivhaus Consultants as part of jmarchitects’ design team. As such, we provided analysis and advice on key design decisions, from high level considerations of building form, glazing ratios and solar shading, to the more intricate design detailing. Every aspect of the building fabric was analysed and input into our PHPP modelling which was used both to guide design as well as for final submission to the Passivhaus Certifier. Designed to Passivhaus standards, Montgomerie Park School will provide the highest levels of thermal comfort and healthy indoor air conditions – the ideal environment for children to learn and to concentrate. As North Ayrshire Council’s first Passivhaus school, the building itself will provide education and inspiration to staff and pupils alike, demonstrating the way forward for our built environment. The building fabric has been super-insulated and the school features energy saving and energy generating technologies, including MVHR systems, solar PV panels and air source heat pumps. The project was procured through hub South West Scotland framework on behalf of North Ayrshire Council and is being partially funded as part of the Scottish Government’s £2bn Learning Real Estate Investment Programme (LEIP). Last week, the publication “High Rise / Low Carbon: Multifamily Deep Retrofit Profiles” was launched in New York, covering 14 tall residential retrofit projects in the US and Europe. Wilmcote House, an ECD project completed in 2018, is one of the case studies included in the publication: https://lnkd.in/eDN3P8zn The research website: https://lnkd.in/e6mmXGJt The full publication can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e_uaiQh2 Wilmcote House Case Study (#4) can be found on page 18 of the publication. This week, the research was also presented at ASHRAE’s Decarbonization Conference: Decarbonizing Existing Tall Buildings in New York: https://lnkd.in/gkhJbGN6 Out of the 14 case studies, Wilmcote House came No.1 in lowest post-retrofit EUI and GHG emissions. Wilmcote House's Project Architect Loreana Padron observed: “Among the case studies in the publication, this project had the lowest initial energy use, due to fuel poverty. Despite this, it achieved a remarkable 39% reduction in final energy use (EUI) and, crucially, significantly improved internal temperatures, air quality, and living conditions for residents experiencing fuel poverty.” #tallbuildings #highrise #decarbonisation #retrofit #enerphit #nofuelpoverty #socialhousing
