We had a great turnout yesterday for bpha’s market engagement event for the procurement of a contract to deliver an extensive refurbishment project. Project Vista - Queen Street Regeneration will involve the refurbishment of three high- rise blocks. The event, attended by 23 people, included a visit to the Queen Street site, a walk through the buildings to look at various aspects of the internal services and an inspection of the roof area, with spectacular views over Bedford and beyond. The group then went to nearby Bedford Heights where Steve Storey Senior Regeneration Manager at bpha, and Stephen Brooks, Partner and Principal Architect at Arcus Consulting LLP delivered presentations on Phase 1 of the scheme. Echelon Group CEO Mathew Baxter then carried out some interactive polling using Slido and took the group through the proposed procurement process and timetable. bpha is looking to appoint a single contractor to deliver all works, which include suspended ceilings and finishes in communal areas, ventilation, soil pipe replacements, fire stopping, sprinkler systems, cold-water mains, double glazed windows, external doors, roof finishes, rainscreen cladding, external insulation, access control, CCTV, external lighting, landscaping and EV charging. We anticipate issuing the Contract Notice on 19 February, so please keep an eye out if you’d like to tender for this opportunity. #procurement #regeneration #marketengagement

We had a great turnout for session four of our Competency and Conduct programme, held at the Building Centre in London. We had a stellar line up of speakers for the event, which focused on diversity and inclusion in the workplace and what can be done to create more inclusive workplaces and recruitment practices. #diversity #inclusion #equality #ukhousing
Did you know that in the FTSE 100 there are more chief executives named Simon or Andrew than there are women? That is one of the startling facts revealed by Mushtaq Khan, Chief Executive of the Housing Diversity Network, in his presentation at the first-ever face-to-face session in our Competency and Conduct programme, which was focused on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. His interactive presentation, also covered: 🔷 Why diversity and inclusion matter 🔷 The potential impact of large USA companies dropping their EDI programmes 🔷Mistakes that organisations make, such as treating EDI as a problem to solve 🔷Key benefits of diversity and inclusion 🔷What organisations should be thinking about, such as the makeup of boards and Exec teams and reviewing their procurement policies for inclusion. 🔷What to include in an EDI strategy, such as training and awareness, and supplier development and support. Jessica Fawke and Olivia Withers of Ian Williams Ltd discussed its apprenticeship ethos and approach to EDI in recruitment. They covered how it uses inclusive practices when recruiting: 🔷Ensuring that recruitment adverts use language that appeals to everyone 🔷Taking steps to tackle unconscious bias 🔷Making reasonable adjustments during the application process 🔷Providing support for neuro diverse candidates It continuously reviews and improves its processes, including revisiting entry requirements, enhancing mentoring, and ensuring consistent interview quality and feedback. The organisation aims to create a supportive and inclusive culture and has implemented initiatives like flexible working, enhanced maternity/paternity pay, mental health support, and regional allowances. Chair of Eldon Housing Association Ltd and Women in Social Housing (WISH) London, Hony Premlal, talked about changing the dial on diversity in leadership, and: 🔷Understanding the state of equality, diversity and inclusion 🔷Exploring actionable strategies to improve 🔷Tools for building strategic impact Hony, who is also Vice Chair of Somerset Co-operative Community Land Trust and a Regional Group Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, encouraged discussion among attendees about their experiences, and inclusive practices within their organisations. The session finished with a Q&A panel, where the speakers were joined by Claire Elston, People Manager at Ian Williams Ltd. They answered questions on topics including: 🔷Support for employees with disabilities 🔷Strategic planning for diversity 🔷Board involvement in diversity 🔷Allyship in organisations There are two sessions left in our Competency and Conduct programme, for AMIP members, led by Debbie Larner.
