This week we hosted a Membership Open Day and isla Member Forum, back-to-back, at Sustainable Ventures… and what a day it was! 💚 During the morning, we gave a room full of event professionals the opportunity to experience what isla Membership is all about, with a bite-sized training session, a workshop focused on our Materials Action Group, an isla Member panel and a TRACE demonstration. 🌍 After lunch, our brilliant isla Members arrived for two sessions on circularity within events, a panel discussion focused on our Materials Action Group and a friendly game of human bingo! Eight and a half years ago, I took part in the #workthatworks campaign, advocating for greater flexibility for working mothers. Like many women, I’d had to make the difficult choice to resign after maternity leave, as my previous employer couldn’t accommodate the flexibility I needed. From my very first interview with Danielle Horseman, Eclipse supported me as a working mum. With an 18-month-old and a partner with long hours in the city, I could initially only commit to three days a week, but Eclipse made it work, bringing me on as admin support for the Production team. Six months later, I transitioned to the account management team under Jamie Castle, increasing my hours to four days a week. We navigated this together, and he gave me the freedom to shape a role that fit both Eclipse’s needs and my own. When I was promoted to Account Director, Robin Purslow flexed again, offering condensed hours so I could balance work and home life as needed. Now, I’m back to five days a week in my role as Commercial Director, sitting on the Senior Leadership team with a seat at the table. This week, I celebrated eight years with Eclipse, grateful for a company that values #workthatworks and has supported my career growth through flexible working. My progression shows how beneficial adaptable work environments can be, not just for employees, but for organisations that retain experienced and committed talent. Hopefully my experience is a beacon of hope for more inclusive workplace practices, and I hope it encourages other companies to recognise the immense value that working mothers bring. #workthatworks #flexibleworking #workingmothers
