Advancing Turf Renovation: Insights from the Winter Sports Update Last week, Ant Surrage had the opportunity to present at the Winter Sports Renovation Update, hosted by Origin Amenity Solutions. This event brought together industry professionals to discuss the latest advancements in sports pitch renovation, research, and best practices for optimising turf performance. One of the key topics covered was plant pathogenic nematodes (PPN)—microscopic pests that can weaken root structures, cause thinning and yellowing, and significantly impact turf quality. Left unmanaged, PPNs can reduce the success of renovation efforts and compromise long-term turf health. At Ecospray, we’ve developed EGC, a biological solution based on garlic extract that effectively manages PPN populations. The theme of the event—“Detail Delivers”—couldn’t be more relevant. In today’s agricultural landscape, where growers face evolving pest and disease challenges, unpredictable weather patterns, and shifts in crop protection strategies, attention to detail is more critical than ever. One key challenge? Nematodes. This persistent threat can significantly impact sugar beet crops by restricting access to water and nutrients. 👀 Seeing is believing: The power of Nemguard SC against nematodes! Costa Rica harvested approximately 1.9 million bushels of coffee in the 2022-2023 season, supporting 38,000 producers across 93,697 hectares. Coffee is a vital crop—but also highly vulnerable to pests and diseases. Among the most destructive threats at the root level are plant-parasitic nematodes. These microscopic soil-dwelling organisms attack coffee roots, weakening plants at every stage of growth. Left unchecked, nematodes can severely impact yield and quality, making effective and sustainable control solutions essential for coffee producers. As the saying goes, “A picture paints a thousand words.” And these trial results from Costa Rica speak volumes! Our latest greenhouse study, conducted by a GLP-qualified CRO, tested Nemguard SC, Ecospray’s garlic-based nematicide, against root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne exigua) in coffee plants (C. arabica, variety Centroamericano). 📷 The untreated plant (1/Left) shows severe root damage. 📷 The treated plants (2/Right) demonstrate remarkable root health and vigour. Key findings from the trial: ✅ 97%+ efficacy against root-knot nematodes at 2.0–4.0 l/ha. ✅ Stronger plants with increased leaf growth and root mass. ✅ Potential additional benefits, including reduced foliage disease incidence (Cercospora sp. & M. citricolor). These results reinforce Nemguard SC as a highly effective, botanical-based solution for nematode control—delivering strong performance while supporting sustainable crop protection.
