🌿 Nature, Culture, and Place: Shaping the Future of the North 🌿 Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining the Northern Nature, Culture, and Place Forum #NNCP25 in Leeds—an inspiring gathering of leaders, practitioners, and policymakers committed to exploring how the North’s unique #natural, #cultural, and #historicalheritage can drive sustainable #regeneration and community #revitalisation. As a panellist for Making the Case: Integrating Outcomes for Nature, Culture, and Economy in Pan-Northern Place Revitalisation—alongside Mike Innerdale Sheona Southern Helen Featherstone and chaired by Angela Jones —I was honoured to share insights from Bradford Council Landscape Design and Conservation Team. Our work is grounded in: 🔹 #CoCreation in #Placemaking: We ensure communities are at the heart of #shaping their landscapes. From large-scale urban redesigns to local neighbourhood projects, co-design helps us deliver multi-benefit outcomes such as economic regeneration, improved #publichealth, #climateresilience, and #biodiversity enhancement. 🔹 #Storytelling to Inspire Action: Making the case for investing in nature and culture requires effectively communicating their value. Through videos, detailed reports, and direct conversations with decision-makers, we aim to inspire bold action. 🔹 #Collaboration is Key: #Partnerships with #communities, funders, and agencies enable us to maximise impact by pooling resources, knowledge, and #innovation. Together, we create transformative outcomes. The forum opened with powerful messages from Shanaz Gulzar Creative Director of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture who urged us to "grasp the vision" and identify opportunities to integrate natural, cultural, and historical heritage. Clare Hayward, Co-Chair of the Convention of the North. Keynotes and discussions featured contributions from: 🔸 David Renwick Vera Jones Tom Hind and Dee Grahamslaw on the value of investing in nature and culture 🔸 Tony Juniper CBE (Chair, Natural England and Duncan Wilson CBE (CEO, Historic England) on opportunities for national collaboration. 🔸 @Karezza McLarnan (Natural Landscapes Association) and Pete Massey Arts Council England on unlocking cross-sector funding to integrate heritage and place-making.David Haley Colm Bowe Sarie Mairs Slee Swinton Estate Bruce Howard Nature North The forum reaffirmed the North's unique opportunity to lead the way in integrating nature, culture, and place-making—let’s build on this momentum and continue shaping a #resilient and thriving future for our communities.
