We’re investing in wind, nuclear and solar to help prevent future energy crises and help Britain achieve Net Zero.

About us

EDF is helping Britain achieve Net Zero by leading the transition to a cleaner, low-emission, electric future and helping prevent future energy crises. Our nuclear fleet has supplied low-carbon electricity to UK homes for more than 40 years, and we’re helping with the development of new nuclear stations at Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C. But we’re not stopping there. EDF is also investing in wind, solar and battery storage technology and helping customers decarbonise their homes and businesses through low-carbon tech such as heat pumps and electric vehicles. Giant 44m long polar crane beams were delivered safely to the Hinkley Point C construction site over the weekend after travelling by sea, river and road. These are critical parts for the crane that will rotate 360° at the top of the second nuclear reactor building. It will be used to install heavy equipment during construction, such as the reactor and steam generators. #BuiltByUs

We’re pleased to have sponsored Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)’s conference on “Engineering the nuclear future – learning and innovation in nuclear industry”. David Pearson (HPC Chief I&C Engineer), shared insights and best practice from the delivery of large-scale engineering projects within EDF and the innovations we’re using to help shape the UK’s nuclear industry on our journey to helping Britain achieve net zero. As Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity, we’re proud to be leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, with plans for a sister station at Sizewell C in Suffolk. We’re committed to engaging with the wider engineering community to foster collaboration, drive innovation, and share knowledge of best practice across the nuclear industry. Together, we can pave the way for a more sustainable, low-carbon future.

Energy prices rose in October for the first time this year. While they’re cheaper than this time last year, prices remain well above pre-crisis levels. At EDF, we’re committed to delivering competitive tariffs and providing low-carbon energy solutions to help our customers save cash and carbon. However, we recognise that more needs to be done. That’s why we’ve increased our funding for extra support to vulnerable customers for the third year running, to £29 million. We’re reintroducing our debt-matching scheme, which cleared £1.1 million of debt in 2023, to help those struggling with energy debt. We’re also working with partners including Citizens Advice Plymouth, Income Max and Charis Grants to support customers experiencing financial difficulty. Additionally, our new initiative this year will see ‘Energy Doctors’ target fuel-poor areas with thermal cameras to identify homes with EPC ratings of D or below, so that we can offer extra support. We’re also continuing to push for Government and industry-wide solutions to tackle the affordability issue, such as a social tariff and broadened energy efficiency schemes.
