Supporting UK Research & Innovation with evidence-based reviews of equality, diversity & inclusion practices.

About us

The EDI Caucus - or EDICa - will strengthen the Research & Innovation system by supporting a culture in which a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and talent from all backgrounds, areas of the UK and career stages can thrive. EDICa will generate and share high quality evidence on practices that improve equality, diversity and inclusion outcomes in the Research & Innovation system through the leadership team working together with a network of experts and practitioners as well as the Funders. EDICa is funded by UKRI (the UK's largest public funder of research and innovation) with additional support from the British Academy. Participating UKRI research councils are AHRC, BBRC, ESRC, EPSRC and Innovate UK. Our three objectives are 1) To provide insights from research evidence on EDI that informs and shapes the work of the funders, and the broader research and innovation sector. 2) To address priority evidence gaps by commissioning and undertaking new research, and by supporting UKRI and the British Academy in testing and evaluating new EDI-related initiatives. 3) To promote, coordinate and facilitate interdisciplinary approaches to research on EDI.

#Neurodivergent women at work are often managing – and hiding – severe psychological distress related to their #menstrual health, new research from Heriot-Watt University suggests. In a new report, business management researchers at the University say there is an “urgent need” to explore support for neurodivergent women in the workplace, particularly those who are managing problematic menstruation and perimenopause – the transition phase leading up to menopause. Neurodiversity, which includes differences such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity condition (ADHD) and Tourette’s Syndrome – and sometimes medications used to regulate some of the symptoms – can affect how women experience and manage the symptoms of hormonal fluctuations, the report finds. Lack of control over the psychological and physical symptoms of the menstrual cycle and the perimenopause was a particular challenge highlighted by a large number of the neurodivergent women interviewed for the research. “This unpredictability can considerably increase their anxiety and may affect how they carry out their work activities and relationships,” the researchers say. Does your organisation offer funding opportunities? This month’s recommended EDI funding resource on our EDI hub is a study by EDI Caucus which examines recent literature about the impact of bias in reviewing and assessing processes for research funding. It also explores strategies that have been used to improve the processes and whether they have been successful or not. The study’s rationale is to improve understanding of existing biases, their impact and gaps in knowledge and practice. Our EDI hub has advice, guidance and good practice examples related to EDI considerations when offering funding opportunities, including the barriers faced by particular characteristics and recommendations for how to address these, and advice on how to collect EDI monitoring and evaluating data with regards to those applying for funding.    Find out more ➡ https://lnkd.in/d6t4jznw #socialscience #EDI
