“My journey is not just about personal achievement, but it is about lifting others along the way. My story matters and sharing it can inspire countless others to reach for the stars.” Adamsay grew up in a community where early marriage and motherhood were valued more than education for girls, but she dreamt of a different future. After moving to the city to live with her uncle and complete her National Primary School Examination (NPSE), she was forced to discontinue school due to not being able to afford school fees for secondary school. Determined to continue her education, Adamsay sought EducAid where she heard she could attend a free school renowned for its academic excellence. On admission she was given the resources to study and not only excelled academically but also took on leadership roles, serving as home mother for younger girls and later as head girl. From selling goods on the street, Adamsay was admitted to university, earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science, and went on to complete an MBA with focus on Entrepreneurship. She is currently studying in China (pictured) and has worked at EducAid improving access to education in rural communities. Adamsay hopes to inspire and mentor other girls, sharing her story in schools and communities to show what is possible. For her, EducAid represents empowerment—giving individuals the tools and support they need to break the cycle of poverty, pursue their dreams, and uplift others. 🎉Exciting update from our Lead FLN Program in Sierra Leone!🎉 📸With the steadfast support of Meraki Analytics (SL) Limited, we have successfully completed the baseline data collection in 150 schools as part of our Lead FLN program in Sierra Leone. In this process to reach 6000 students, 300 teachers, and 150 head teachers, we use this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the effort it takes to collect data from the ground. Enumerators, supervisors, and survey coordinators showed tremendous commitment in reaching the schools in Bonthe, Kambia, Moyamba, Port Loko, Pujehun, and Western Urban and Rural districts. At the same time, students, teachers, and head teachers invested their time in providing us with the data we need. We sincerely hope that this effort will lead to an improvement in their school experience. Special thanks to our implementation partners EducAid Sierra Leone and the National Youth Awareness Forum - SL (NYAF) for mobilizing on-the-ground support as needed, ensuring timely data collection. This baseline data will provide critical insights that guide us to improve foundational literacy and numeracy across Sierra Leone.💡📈 Stay tuned for updates as we continue this important journey! 🌍📊 Joel Kallon, Harry Henry Kargbo #LeadFLN #SierraLeone #FoundationalLiteracyAndNumeracy #FLN #SchoolLeadership #EducationLeadership

A strong, supportive, and respectful environment is the foundation for quality education. In each EducAid class, students and staff come together to create Shared Behavior Goals that guide how we learn, work, and thrive as a school community. These guidelines include treating each other with kindness, understanding and appreciating our differences, taking ownership of our learning and actions, embracing challenges, learning from mistakes, and continuously striving to improve ourselves. They also include listening actively, speaking honestly, resolving conflicts constructively and supporting other students to all achieve these shared goals. By setting these goals together, students have a voice in shaping the school community we all want to be a part of. This is about shared responsibility and mutual support where we ensure a space where everyone feels valued and empowered to succeed - together. #EducAid #SharedGoals #PositiveCommunity #StudentVoice #GrowthMindset

EducAid’s Strong Girl Incubator is a gender equality programme that gives girls the tools and support they need to continue education. Since 2007, the SGI has seen more than 1,000 girls and young women successfully return to secondary school, making it an example of a successful girls’ education programme in Sierra Leone. Improved educational outcomes are associated with increased employability for young women, and therefore a chance to break the poverty cycle and transform their future and the future of their communities. Participants in the SGI also acquire important life skills that help them make informed choices about their lives and makes them less vulnerable to manipulation and exploitation. In the 2023-24 school year, 117 girls and young women were able to rejoin mainstream secondary education due to their participation in the SGI. Throughout September and October, the SGI has been welcoming a new cohort of students for this school year. EducAid asked some of these girls who were out of school last year, what made them want to come back to school through the Strong Girl Incubator programme. Have a look at some of their responses here: Find out more about the SGI and donate on our website - https://lnkd.in/egxt3cdr #quote #EducAid #education #sierraleone #genderequality

On Thursdays, EducAid’s Secondary Schools hold the White Ribbon Campaign sessions. This is the partner of our Girl Power Group sessions; a specific platform dedicated to work with boys to improve gender equality and reduce gender based violence. The WRC sessions are a place for boys and young men to discuss issues of equality and how they can help to end gender-based violence and be equality champions for girls and women. Working with our male staff and students, these sessions promote gender equality, healthy relationships and transform social norms. By engaging with men and boys, the sessions challenge unequal behaviour and promote cultural change that encompasses equality and says no to violence against women and girls. We are all part of the change to a more equal future! 🌱 Having access to food is recognised as the third most basic human necessity (after air and water), as well as a basic human right under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yet globally, many families face daily challenges accessing substantial nutritious food. To achieve the 2030 goal of Zero Hunger, work is needed to ensure diverse and nutrient-rich diets are affordable, accessible, and safe — for everyone. As EducAid works towards quality education for all, we also advocate for a future where no child goes hungry. In EducAid’s schools, all students receive meals. For home students this means 3 full meals per day, and all of our day students are provided with a nutritious lunch. Throughout EducAid’s classes, students also learn about the importance of food security and sustainable agriculture practices, for example how to best use our local products, reduce food waste, and invest in sustainable food systems for the future - so that everyone has the opportunity to learn and thrive. #WorldFoodDay #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture #SierraLeone

Girls’ Rights, Girls’ Vision: Everyone's Future Today is #InternationalDayOfTheGirl - a key global moment on which to celebrate girls everywhere, amplifying their voices, actions and leadership yet also recognising the challenges we still have to overcome in achieving equality. This day belongs to everyone, not only those advocating for girls’ rights. It’s about building a better future for all. For when girls achieve their goals, the world moves closer to achieving global goals on sustainable development. Yet big challenges remain: globally today 119.3 million girls are out of school, a drop of only 4.3% since 2015 (UN Women, 2024). In Sierra Leone, many girls face barriers in accessing education - and the country is still one of the most challenging in the world to be a girl (ranked 162 out of 170 countries on the 2021 UNDP’s Gender Inequality Index). EducAid is committed to changing this and working to support all girls to realise their full potential. We work on gender equality, reducing access barriers and providing quality education so that more girls have the support, opportunity and resources they need to continue their education. The impact from this is wide reaching with families, communities and economies all becoming stronger - as when girls succeed, their vision shapes the future for everyone. Today in class, EducAid’s students will be holding activities for International Day of the Girl and girls rights. Stay tuned next week for a round up of their work!
