Heartfelt thanks to Giselle Byrnes and Dr Tere McGonagle-Daly for contributing this excellent chapter to our book published by Edward Elgar Publishing https://lnkd.in/geKGGkm3 Professor Sarah O' Shea and I are hosting a book launch on 19 Nov. If you’d like to hear more please register at https://lnkd.in/gKaSuitu
We’ve shared our student success initiative Pūrehuroatanga in a new international research handbook that champions international best practice. Co-chairs of the Pūrehuroatanga steering group, Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and Global Engagement Dr Tere McGonagle-Daly, have co-authored a chapter on Pūrehuroatanga in the newly published Research Handbook on Student Engagement in Higher Education that highlights Massey’s innovation in student success. Our target is halving equity and parity gaps by 2026 and removing them completely by 2030. Provost Professor Giselle Byrnes says, “To ensure we meet these goals, we’re implementing a significant shift in the practice of both professional and academic staff. It’s an all-of-institution approach to addressing challenges for first-year students.” Dr Tere McGonagle-Daly says, “We prioritise learner success plans for Māori and Pacific students, our disability and inclusion plan and initiatives for the whole student journey. We’re thrilled to share our approach with others in the hope it can inform better learning journeys around the world.” Read more👇 https://lnkd.in/gfrNnzcu

New #OpenAccess title Fairness in #IntellectualProperty Law: Searching for a Uniform Concept by Annette Kur, Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Germany, nari lee, Hanken School of Economics, Helsinki, Finland and Anna Tischner, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland This Open Access title is free to read and download on Elgaronline. https://lnkd.in/dgH5z4FV ‘Fairness is a key concept of intellectual property law. The authors analyse it from different substantive and methodological angles and present its surprising theoretical and practical potential as a cornerstone of a modern, balanced and sustainable IP system. A highly instructive and original book.’ – Ansgar Ohly, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany ‘Issues of fairness have long been shortchanged in intellectual property scholarship, either sacrificed to arguments about economic efficiency or just assumed by commentators without rigorous analysis. Kur, Lee, and Tischner have produced a sweeping, thoughtful, and thought-provoking book on fairness in IP that deserves a lot of attention.’ – Justin Hughes, Loyola Marymount University, US

#Today we want to present you Chapter 2, from Juan Manuel Sánchez Pueyo & Richard H. entitled "The impact of EU law on challenges, recognition and enforcement of international commercial awards". Below the abstract! "EU law impacts the post-award stage of international commercial arbitration through the post-award regimes in the EU Member States and how these regimes are applied by national courts throughout the EU. The Chapter focuses in this respect on an assessment of the national regimes of the EU Member States with regard to setting aside proceedings and enforcement proceedings in relation to international commercial arbitral awards. The (in)consistencies as to the procedural aspects of those post-award regimes throughout the EU may impact how and to what extent EU law is indeed tested and applied in a uniform and consistent manner by the national courts. In addition, on the EU level, more clarity as to exactly which ‘fundamental’ EU law provisions the EU Member States should guarantee a certain degree of review by national courts through their own post-award regimes, may be useful in order to avoid lengthy proceedings in that respect." We hope you enjoy the reading! Prof. Dr. Nikos Lavranos Stefano Castagna Tony Hawitt Edward Elgar Publishing #Arbitration #EU #ISDS #Commercial

Please join us for the online launch of our publication: Research Handbook on Student Engagement in Higher Education, which myself and Cathy S. edited. We have 27 chapters of diverse perspectives that unpack 'student engagement', revealing the complex and contested nature of this term. The wonderful Sally Kift will join us to discuss the catalyst for the book and then we will feature short presentations from authors across the following broad themes: 1) Student engagement and affect. 2) Wider social, political and geographic influences on student engagement. 3) Engagement as variable and diffuse rather than static. 4) The reciprocal nature of engagement across individual learners, institutions, and broader community. When: Nov 19, 2024, 6:00 - 8.00PM Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney Please register in advance for this meeting: https://lnkd.in/gUdJFXkS After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
