⚡ Analyzing the Decarbonization of Road Transport: The Rise of Electric Vehicles ⚡ The BP Energy Outlook 2024 highlights significant changes in the road transport sector as the world moves toward decarbonization. One of the most striking trends is the rapid rise of electric vehicles (EVs), driven by tightening emissions regulations and increasing cost competitiveness. 🔑 Key Insights: 🚗 Global Fleet Growth: The global light-duty vehicle fleet is expected to increase from 1.5 billion in 2022 to 2.5 billion by 2050. This growth is mainly driven by emerging economies, where rising prosperity leads to higher car ownership. ⚡ Electrification Trends: The electrification of the global vehicle fleet is accelerating, particularly in developed economies. By 2035, the share of electric vehicles is projected to rise to 20-30% of the global fleet, growing to 50-85% by 2050, depending on the scenario. ⬇️ Decline of Internal Combustion Engines (ICE): While the number of ICE vehicles remains stable initially, their numbers begin to decline by 2050. In the Net Zero scenario, the global fleet of ICE vehicles could be 75% lower than in 2022, significantly reducing oil demand for road transport. 🛢️ Impact on Oil Demand: As the share of EVs increases, the demand for oil in road transport is expected to decline sharply, from 30 million barrels per day (Mb/d) in 2022 to just 16 Mb/d in the Current Trajectory and as low as 4 Mb/d in Net Zero by 2050. These trends underscore the pivotal role of electric vehicles in the global energy transition, reflecting a broader shift away from fossil fuels and toward cleaner, more sustainable energy sources. #Electrogenos #ElectricVehicles #Decarbonization #EnergyTransition #SustainableTransport Source: BP Energy Outlook 2024

🌍 Italy Announces Nearly €1 Billion in Hydrogen Subsidies 🌍 The Italian government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative, committing over €994 million in subsidies to support hydrogen projects approved under the EU’s Hy2Infra Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) list. This move aligns with the European Commission’s earlier announcement, which endorsed up to 600MW of electrolysis capacity and hydrogen pipelines in Italy for significant state aid, contributing to a broader €6.9 billion investment across seven European countries. Key Highlights: 🔹 Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley: Set to receive €470 million, this hub will feature 160MW of electrolyser capacity in Brindisi and Taranto, developed by Edison and Saipem, and 110km of pipelines, 85km of which will repurpose existing gas infrastructure by Snam. Operations are expected to begin in 2028. 🔹 Energie Salentine: Included in the Hy2Infra list, though specific project details remain undisclosed. Adolfo Urso, the Italian Minister of Enterprise and “Made in Italy,” emphasized Italy’s leadership in the hydrogen sector, highlighting the importance of this investment in achieving technological neutrality and advancing green technology. #Electrogenos #GreenHydrogen #SustainableEnergy #HydrogenEconomy #RenewableEnergy 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e_cFYvWy

🚍 Exciting developments in Vienna's public transportation! 🔋 The city has announced plans to replace its 12 battery-electric buses on two “electric-only” routes with hydrogen hybrid models by mid-2025. Here's what's happening: 🔹 New Buses: Wiener Linien, Vienna’s transit agency, has purchased ten hydrogen hybrid buses from Italian manufacturer Rampini. These buses use a combination of a 170kWh battery and a fuel cell, extending their range and eliminating the need for recharging during service. 🔹 Efficiency: The extended range means fewer buses are needed for the 2A and 3A lines, and no additional charging infrastructure is required. 🔹 Green Hydrogen: An integrated electrolyser and refuelling complex by Wien Energie will produce green hydrogen locally in Vienna. 🔹 Future Expansion: Ten more fuel-cell buses from CaetanoBus will be deployed on the challenging 39A route next year. This initiative aligns with Vienna’s commitment to sustainable transport but raises questions about the cost and efficiency of hydrogen buses compared to battery-powered ones. 🌿🌍 #GreenEnergy #SustainableTransport #HydrogenRevolution #ViennaInnovation #Electrogenos 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dcNFxBZJ

🌱 Hydrogen's Demand in UK 🌱 🚀 The United Kingdom sees low-carbon hydrogen playing a key role in decarbonising energy consumption across industry, power, transport, and potentially home heating. The December 2023 Hydrogen Production Delivery Roadmap sets out potential demand ranges across each of these sectors, leading to a total potential range of 18-41 TWh of hydrogen demand by 2030, and a range of 50-175 TWh by 2035. 🔧 UK policy support for hydrogen use in industry spans multiple applications via several schemes, including: 🔹 Industrial Fuel Switching Competition 🔹 Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Programme 🔹 Industrial Energy Transformation Fund 🔹 Local Industrial Decarbonisation Plans Competition 🌐 These schemes aim to develop area-based, collaborative “local clusters” to explore technological solutions and identify localised hydrogen options. UK industry could consume an additional 12-19 TWh by 2030, with the ambition for 50 TWh of fuel switching from fossil fuels to electricity and hydrogen by 2035. 🚢 Hydrogen is also significant for decarbonising parts of the transport sector, such as maritime and aviation, through direct use or sustainable aviation fuels. ⚡ Hydrogen to power (H2P) solutions could facilitate 5-12 GW of low-carbon electricity generation by 2035, rising to 20-90 GW by 2050. Strategic decisions on hydrogen-based heating are expected in 2026, with ongoing projects like SGN’s H100 trial in Fife. #Electrogenos #HydrogenEconomy #GreenEnergy #SustainableFuture #CleanTech #Decarbonisation Source: International Energy Agency, Northwest European Hydrogen Monitor 2024.

🌱 Transforming Agriculture: Yara and PepsiCo’s Low-Carbon Fertilizer Initiative🌱 Norwegian fertilizer giant Yara has teamed up with US-based PepsiCo to supply low-carbon fertilizers, including ammonia derived from blue and green hydrogen, to approximately 1,000 potato farms across the EU and UK. This initiative, set to launch by the end of next year, aims to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural practices. 🔹 Key Highlights: 1. Volume: By 2030, Yara will provide up to 165,000 tonnes of low-carbon fertilizer annually, meeting a quarter of the demand from farms supplying potatoes for popular PepsiCo brands such as Doritos, Walkers, Ruffles, and Lay’s. 2. Environmental Impact: Yara’s fertilizers, including those made with catalyst technology, have a carbon footprint about 50% lower than most non-EU fertilizers. 3. Green Hydrogen: PepsiCo has already introduced potato crisps using green hydrogen-derived fertilizers in Spain, significantly cutting carbon emissions. 🔹 Sustainability Goals: The partnership aims to support PepsiCo's target of a 24 percentage point reduction in production emissions and a 5 percentage point reduction in in-field emissions. The collaboration will also encourage sustainable agricultural practices while maintaining crop quality and yields. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFBNyHDF #Electrogenos #GreenHydrogen #SustainableAgriculture #LowCarbonFuture #EnvironmentalInnovation 🌍✨
