The Ellen MacArthur Foundation was launched in 2010 to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Since its creation the charity has emerged as a global thought leader, establishing the circular economy on the agenda of decision makers across business, government and academia. With the support of its Strategic Partners, the Foundation’s work focuses on five interlinking areas: Learning Developing the vision, skills and mindsets needed to transition to a circular economy Business and Government Catalysing circular innovation and creating the conditions for it to reach scale. Insight and Analysis Providing robust evidence about the benefits and implications of the transition Systemic Initiatives Taking a global, cross-sectoral approach to material flows, the Foundation is bringing together organisations from across value chains to tackle systemic stalemates that organisations cannot overcome in isolation. The city of Ljubljana in Slovenia has a comprehensive urban plan prioritising the expansion of green-blue spaces, including tree canopies. As part of the Ljubljana 2025 plan, more than 40,000 new trees have been planted across the city and 120 hectares of new green park areas have been created, largely on former brownfield sites. The Foundation’s Senior Expert for Performance Measurement Alasdair Hedger MSc, PIEMA, CIR has been appointed to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) Scope 3 Technical Working Group, to support the process to revise and update the GHG Protocol’s Scope 3 Standard.
