Supply chains are the backbone of our global economy, but they’re also at the heart of many environmental challenges we face today. 🌱 What if we could transform them to be part of the solution? This video explains how circular economy principles can reshape supply chains to build resilience, reduce costs, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. Interested in learning more? About us
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation was launched in 2010 to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Since its creation the charity has emerged as a global thought leader, establishing the circular economy on the agenda of decision makers across business, government and academia. With the support of its Strategic Partners, the Foundation’s work focuses on five interlinking areas: Learning Developing the vision, skills and mindsets needed to transition to a circular economy Business and Government Catalysing circular innovation and creating the conditions for it to reach scale. Insight and Analysis Providing robust evidence about the benefits and implications of the transition Systemic Initiatives Taking a global, cross-sectoral approach to material flows, the Foundation is bringing together organisations from across value chains to tackle systemic stalemates that organisations cannot overcome in isolation. Currently running two programmes - New Plastics Economy and Make Fashion Circular. "There is currently no viable business case for the collection of used textiles. We need mandatory policy that can help ensure that textiles stay out of the waste stream and out of the environment. EPR is a key policy measure to cover the costs associated with managing textiles after use, as it is the only mechanism that delivers funding that is dedicated, ongoing and sufficient." Valérie Boiten, the Foundation's Senior Policy Officer for Fashion, recently spoke to Oeko-Institut e.V. about EPR legislation in Europe and beyond. In this podcast episode by the OEKO Institute, hear from Valerie, alongside locally-contextualised inputs from: 🎙️ Katja Moch, Senior Researcher Sustainable Products and Material Flows, Oeko-Institute 🎙️ Dace Akule, Expert in sustainable textiles, Green Liberty (Latvia) 🎙️ Oliver Boachie, Special Advisor to Ghana's Minister of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation (Ghana) 🎙️ Ruben Goldsztayn, Director of Sustainable Production and Consumption, National Business Association of Colombia (Colombia) 🎙️ Reva Prakash, Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Expert, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), India office (India)
#scienceforum2024 #ressourcen #plastic #textiles #wendenbitte #podcast #English: Where do we currently stand with the circular economy in the plastics industry? What is the anthropogenic raw material stock and how can urban mining make the construction sector more sustainable? And what political framework conditions are needed to make the textile sector more sustainable? At the end of September, we discussed how the #CircularEconomy can be implemented in the key areas of plastics, the construction sector and the textile sector in three exciting online forums with experts. This kicked off our science forum on the topic of “Circular Economy - what's next?” and we are already looking forward to the final event on November 5 in Berlin (registration still possible!) If you unfortunately missed the sessions, you can now listen to the most important contributions in our special podcast episodes! (see the links above)

Global Climate Leader 🔸 Co-Host, Outrage + Optimism 🔸 Former UN Climate Change Executive Secretary, Chief Negotiator of the landmark Paris Agreement of 2015 🔸 Founding Partner, Global Optimism
In a time of great division, we have a chance to show that the world can meet global crises with global solutions. This November, our governments face a historic moment: the UN treaty to end plastic pollution will enter its final round of negotiations in Busan, Republic of Korea. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to address the root causes of plastic pollution, but despite significant public and business support, there is a real danger of letting this chance slip away. I have joined forces with Ellen MacArthur to urge governments to unite in ambition to get the job done. It’s time to write a new story in which plastic pollution is a crisis we solve together. The Netherlands is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, with Amsterdam leading the way. Take a look at the city's HAUT apartment building — one of the tallest timber-hybrid structures in the world — which has 50% fewer carbon emissions compared with a conventional building and stores 1,800 tonnes of CO2. And there are social benefits too, as the construction of timber-hybrid buildings is quicker, safer, and less disruptive. Projects like HAUT demonstrate the ability to create circular, nature-positive housing for all 🌿 Explore more below.
