Starting on the tools, Micheal has time after time risen to the challenge, overcoming them, leading to his subsequent promotions to electrical lead, Project engineer and now PM.     Tell us about your journey at Elmleigh. How long have you been with the company, and what role did you hold before?    I have been with Elmleigh for roughly 8 years, started as an electrician and soon progressed to supervisor. Then I was given the opportunity to take on the role within our team as a project engineer, which I have been doing for just over a year. The position of PM became available, and I decided that I was ready for my next challenge, so applied for the position.   How do you feel about your recent promotion?   I am happy that Elmleigh thought that I was the best candidate for the PM position, knowing that there were other established Project Managers with a vast wealth of experience who applied for the position, so getting it makes me feel confident that Elmleigh recognised my work!   What are you most excited about in your new role?    I’m looking forward to seeing and being more involved with what goes on behind the scenes at Elmleigh. I am also looking forward to growing our team and expanding into other areas of the industry. Being a PM gives our team the structure to grow further.    Key Experiences?   Hard one to answer. I think the experience gained by being a project engineer is invaluable for this role. It helped me grasp what we do as a company and what is required of me within this role. Being a Project Engineer gave me the chance to work in multiple different environments. I even came into my own. I found that Bay 4 was a perfect time for me to improve my proficiencies. This is where I specialized in ATEX installations, overseeing a project with HV.   What advice would you give to your colleagues who wish to grow in their roles?   Keep working hard and committed to your current role. At Elmleigh, we specialise in safer design solutions in the food and drink industry! The Challenge: Installing a solution to integrate slicer safety modifications for a long-standing food and drink industry client. Our primary concerns were: - The machine could be opened during production during operators, leading to poteinal harm. - The complexity of the modifications due to the quality control process needed for the product. The Teams: ✏️Mechanical Design 🔥Fabrication Team 🔧Mechanical Installation The Solution: Because of our concerns, this project was a complex issue to resolve. The slicer was embedded in the machine; our team used 3D scanning technology to get an accurate scope for the equipment they were upgrading. This made our design process far more efficient. Our design team created multiple systems to reduce risk, including locking mechanisms, identification plates and more. Due to the reduced time spent creating the design, we achieved a quick turnaround on the project. During installation, we welded tear-drop pin locks and sensor brackets to the mechanism to act as an emergency stop system, shutting off the slicer after opening the machine. We also applied supporting upgrades to ensure that nobody could remove or tamper with the new systems. The Outcome: The client was so impressed with our work that they requested repair work on the slicers in their other facilities. As a result, our work on the slicers became our client's new design standard. The site was a huge challenge; we needed to work while it was fully operational during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, our electrical engineering team had to adhere to strict controls and requirements. ⚡The Solution Although the site had its challenges, our team had experienced them many times before, so they set to work on delivering the electrical and mechanical installation for the manufacturer. We used high-specification materials to construct a bespoke food-safe hygienic installation, working closely with the client to meet all relevant engineering standards. We also incorporated site-specific preferences into the final automated solution. 📈The Outcome The manufacturer was thrilled with the new installation because it increased capacity, enabling them to keep up with ever-growing market demand. Different kettle of fish this week. Making alterations as a customer had a rethink on their original design. Combining 4 E stop zones across 2 panels into one. A lot going on here with the integration of a set of 6 plug in flexible conveys. It’s unusual to see hard wired systems on such a large scale these days. But we enjoyed the challenge all the same. At Elmleigh, we can handle any large-scale electrical installation project at an operational facility! 🍏The Challenge Installing an advanced central mains and LV distribution system alongside LED lighting, cable containment, control system wiring and control panel connections. This project needed a fast turnaround, so we had to maintain all timelines and deliver the project on schedule. Due to this strict timeline and the fully operational production facility, we knew this would be a real challenge. ⚡The Solution After receiving the timeline, we agreed to uphold multiple site-specific standards within which to work. Working with the main contractor, we ensured the electric installation met their needs. Our skilled technicians delivered a perfect mix of bespoke stainless steel cable management and galvanised components to fit the installation requirements. Additionally, we carried out the following tasks: - Installed a full mains distribution system - Installed a purpose-made central LV distribution system - Cabled out remote factory areas for sub-distribution before moving to the plant and machinery element. 😀The Outcome The client was extremely happy with our professionalism and approach to the project.
