There is a critical gap in funding for the LGBTQ+ community, with less that 0.04% of all global development investment going towards LBGTQ+ programs. In 2023, we accelerated our efforts and increased investment to close the gap so LGBTQ+ communities can live without fear and have equitable access to lifesaving healthcare, support and services. 👉 Swipe to learn how.
About us
The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 and is one of the leading independent AIDS organisations in the world. The Foundation’s mission is simple: an AIDS free future. We are committed to no more discrimination. No more HIV infections. No more AIDS death. No matter who or where you are. The Foundation works at all levels to influence change. With the mobilization of our network of generous supporters and partners, we fund local experts in 23 countries to spread awareness, prevent infections and provide care and treatment for the most marginalised groups. We harness local knowledge and innovation and motivate governments to end AIDS. We will not stop until there is an AIDS free future.

Since the conflict in Ukraine escalated in February 2022, over 14 million people have been displaced, seeking safety across the country and beyond. Earlier this month, our Ukraine Program Manager, Denys Denisenko, met with local organizations in Germany and Poland who are providing services and outreach to refugees living with, or at risk of HIV. Stas has been navigating life in basic temporary accommodation for over two years. He is one of the millions of individuals living in refugee camps who are striving for stability amidst uncertainty. To support refugees who are living with or at risk of HIV, our RADIAN program is expanding its reach to Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Germany – where increased access to support and HIV services are critically needed for people like Stas. By addressing barriers including language, social isolation, and stigma, we are committed to ensuring Ukrainian refugees can access the healthcare they need.

🏳️🌈 It’s LGBTQ+ History Month in the United States 🏳️🌈 First celebrated in October of 1994, this month is a time to honor the trailblazers who advocated, and those who continue to advocate, for LGBTQ+ equality. It’s a reminder that today, in 2024, there is an ongoing journey towards a world where everyone has the right to love, and be loved.

We are concerned by NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence's draft decision not to recommend Cabotegravir long-acting (CAB-LA) – a form of injectable PrEP - as a HIV prevention option. CAB-LA is an innovative, effective, and much-needed alternative for certain groups at risk of HIV who may struggle with access or adherence to daily oral PrEP. The UK’s HIV Action Plan highlights the pivotal role of PrEP in ending new HIV cases by 2030 and a range of PrEP options need to be available if we are to leave nobody behind.
We're disappointed NICE have published draft guidance to not recommend Cabotegravir (CAB-LA), a form of long-acting PrEP. Long-acting PrEP could be a much-needed alternative for those who struggle to access or adhere to daily oral PrEP. Read the HIV sector's joint statement 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFgyBpWw

Between 2018 and 2022, HIV infections among gay and bisexual men in the US decreased year-on-year. Although much progress has been made in HIV prevention treatment and services, discrimination, stigma and poverty continue to serve as barriers in providing equitable HIV healthcare for vulnerable communities. Swipe to learn how the Elton John AIDS Foundation is working to empower the global LGBTQ+ community.

Today on National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, we’re spotlighting the incredible work of organizations like Allies in Hope, an Elton John AIDS Foundation grantee, who are breaking down barriers to HIV prevention and care. Allies in Hope provide free and confidential HIV/STI testing, and access to prevention and treatment. 22-year-old Malik was put in touch with Allies in Hope after looking into HIV prevention services through MISTR. “I met with a doctor for a consultation and, did a HIV test to make sure I could go on PrEP. It was simple, easy and reliable,” shares Malik. “Through my journey, I now know that PrEP can benefit everyone so I make sure to tell my friends about it. Everyone’s at risk of HIV, it’s not a gay disease.” Photo credit: Sean Black #NGMHAAD
