How can we better understand the drivers of engagement through a more holistic understanding of the employee experience that encompasses both the strategic and tactical enablers? Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are often viewed as financially compelling endeavours. However, the intangible factors, such as culture, are often not given enough attention. Cultural fit is described as a critical success factor in company integration by a staggering 95% of organisations (McKinsey & Company 2019). However, one in four state that a lack of cultural cohesion and alignment is the top reason that integration efforts fail to succeed; particularly with cross-border and international mergers that are combining fundamentally different ways of working. Common challenges that we come across with our clients are culture clashes, resistance to change and identity crises amongst employees. Fantastic to see our client John Neal, Lloyd's CEO, meeting with the UK Prime Minister yesterday at The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), discussing how the private sector can work with governments to accelerate the transition to net zero. Yesterday, our CEO John Neal met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer (10 Downing Street) at The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa to discuss how governments can work with the private sector to accelerate the net zero transition. This was an important platform to showcase how Lloyd’s, alongside the broader insurance industry, plays a vital role in safeguarding climate-vulnerable nations by acting as capacity providers and spearheading innovative solutions. During CHOGM, Lloyd’s - alongside the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and Aon – also announced the launch of an first-of-its-kind Disaster Resilience Vehicle to deliver disaster risk financing to Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific.
