About us

Engage are the leading charity for promoting engagement and participation in the visual arts. Through advocacy, research, and training we help ensure the quality, inclusivity, and relevance of engagement and participation opportunities across the UK. We are a UK-wide organisation with Wales and Scotland-based activities led through Engage Cymru and Engage Scotland. Engage was established as a membership organisation in 1989 and currently holds a membership of over 700 beneficiaries. Engage is supported by Arts Council England, Arts Council of Wales and Creative Scotland. Engage supports members in many ways - working to influence policy in the visual arts, to raise the profile of the profession within and outside the sector, and secure resources for gallery and visual arts education. Membership starts at £3.25 per month, with options for organisations and concessions available for students, recent graduates, unemployed, over 60s and disabled people. • ⭐We are looking for submissions for collaborators for Engage Journal 48. This year's theme is reflecting on histories and/or futures to explore current challenges to visual arts engagement and participation. ⭐ Prospective contributors can submit proposals for the Journal and/ or Podcast. Submissions are open to anyone, both UK and international, and proposals do not have to evidence prior publication or experience. Alongside the opportunity to contribute, we are once again offering ‘Exchange’ - our annual podcasts for Journal and Gathering. These are opportunities for professionals to share their own practice, learning and insights through dialogue, creative and critical writing, and workshop facilitation. We are looking for expressions of interest from visual arts engagement colleagues at all stages of their career who would benefit from training, mentoring and support to access these opportunities and create their own material for publication or public sharing.
