Adi and Gavin are renowned for their Dad jokes. 🙄🤣 So, as it's Halloween, here's one for you... Why don't skeletons fight each other? 🤔 They don't have the guts!! 🤣🤣🤣 We might groan at their Dad jokes, but I think we secretly love them. Our final question in our H&S culture series asks... Do you commit? It is important to commit to the progression and development of health and safety practices and culture. Completing reviews of your practices, identifying areas of improvement, and creating a realistic and reasonable action plan can go a long way to achieving this. Making this commitment known within the company can instil confidence within the management team – it shows a readiness to look after their staff, take health and safety seriously, and create a positive working environment. Please do get in touch if you'd like any further support or guidance regarding your H&S culture.

A gentle reminder that a 2am tomorrow morning, Sunday 27th October, the clocks will go back an hour, giving us an extra hour in bed; the sun will begin to set earlier and days will become shorter. Introduced in 1916, to give farmers an extra hour of sunlight, the Daylight Saving Time initiative was formalised as British Summer Time with the Summer Time Act 1916. For those who prefer the summertime, a date for your diary is Sunday 30th March2025 when the clocks will move forwards again.

Do you lead by example? No matter what level you stand at within a company, your actions and practices may influence someone else’s. It is important that everyone within a company follows the expected practices and procedures that have been laid out. If someone is seen to be leading by example, no matter their level within the company, others are likely to follow. However, having a management team who lead by example is vital. It reinforces that fact that health and safety standards should be met, and practise must be followed by everyone within the company, with no exceptions. This can lead to a safe, happy workforce who understand that no one is immune to workplace hazards; creating an environment where people work together to ensure standards are being met, and feel safe and able to correct unsafe behaviour and practices carried out by anyone within the company. For more support or guidance regarding your company's H&S culture, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Do you value quality or quantity? With regards to building a positive culture with regards to H&S, today we ask: Do you value quality or quantity? While valuing quantity is important to the successful operation of a company, having this as your main focus can encourage rushing, corner cutting, and may cause the introduction of unsafe practices. When you are seen to be valuing quantity, it can send the message that targets need be met no matter what. This can mean that people feel pressured to ‘do whatever it takes’ to get the job done, even if this means putting themselves or others at risk. Of course, when we talk about quality, we may be referring to a number of aspects. We could be talking about product and service quality, or we could be referring to the quality of a workspace, and the standard of practice that is expected. When you are seen to be valuing quality, more care will be taken and patience, precision, and careful consideration will be practiced by employees at all levels of the company. In turn, this can encourage people to speak up if they feel that something isn’t working as well as it could be, and can lead to a safer, more productive workforce, who will work well together in order to ensure the expected standards are met. If you'd like more support or guidance with regards to developing your H&S culture further, do please get in touch.
