A big thank you to our Enviromesh team! Last night some of our team let their hair down after a really busy 2024 at a great Christmas party. Although not everyone could make it, we’d like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to all our staff for their hard work over the year. Although there’s still another trading week to go, 2024 has been another great year for Enviromesh and none of it would be possible without our amazing people. How can Ground Investigation (GI) save me money? Enviromesh are on site in Castleford, West Yorkshire, building two gabion retaining walls with a total volume of 1,200m3. In most cases, it is necessary to excavate the in-situ soils behind the retaining wall to the theoretical failure plane. Rankin's formula suggests this is at an angle of (45° + ϕ/2) where ϕ= Angle of Internal Friction of the retained soil. Unless we know ϕ we can't ascertain the amount of excavation required. For this job the GI provided sufficient information to permit the excavation to be steeper than normal, reducing both muck away and imported back fill. The cut is inspected every day to monitor its temporary condition but good GI, efficient design and good H&S practice have reduced costs for this wall. #gabions #gabion #retainingwalls #retainingwall #geotechnicalengineering #structuralengineering #earthworks #civilengineering #constructionuk #groundinvestigation #GI
