📢 March 2025 UK PRN Market Update: Supply Pressures & Pricing Risks The latest Packaging Recovery Note (PRN) data for March 2025 signals a tightening market, with supply contracting across all material categories. Year-on-year, total PRN supply has dropped by 14%, with materials like glass, aluminium, steel, and plastic experiencing the steepest declines. These supply constraints could introduce pricing volatility, making it crucial for producers to stay ahead of market trends. However, the full picture is still unfolding. Key factors—such as official carry-over tonnages from the previous compliance year—will play a significant role in determining whether these supply reductions translate into real shortages or if undisclosed PRNs will help ease the pressure. 🚨 Headline Takeaways: A Market Under Pressure 🚨 🔻 Total PRN supply is down 14% year-on-year, with particularly sharp declines in: Glass (-27%) Aluminium (-26%) Steel (-23%) Plastic (-16%) 🔻 Glass Aggregate has seen the most dramatic drop (-54%), raising concerns about availability. 🔻 The full impact on PRN pricing remains uncertain until carry-over tonnages and compliance demand data are published. What This Means for Producers... With supply tightening, PRN pricing volatility is a growing risk. While official figures from DEFRA and the EA will provide more clarity later this month, producers should stay informed and ready to adjust their compliance strategies accordingly. International Women’s Day came from the labour movement and women demanding the right to vote as well as better pay and working conditions. That was only a little over a hundred years ago. IWD for me means celebrating the achievements of women that came before us whilst acknowledging the ongoing struggles for equality in women’s personal and professional lives across the world. Whether it is women’s safety, their bodily autonomy or pay disparities, there is still a lot to fight for, for all women. So happy International Women's Day and solidarity to the brilliant women I know and to all the wonderful women I don't that are fighting for a better, safer and fairer world for everyone. #internationalwomensday

International Women’s Day (IWD), to me, is firstly an opportunity to reflect on the amazing women I have been blessed to know in both my personal and work life over the years. It’s also an opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to the figures of the past, present and future for fighting for meaningful change. Your resilience is admirable, your voice speaks for those who cannot freely speak for themselves without fear, your actions will create a fairer world for generations to come. Every day, in same way, shape or form, every one of us is impacted on a daily basis by the presence and contribution that women bring to society. Beit a best friend you can always turn to, a coworker who always brings their all, a barista who served you your coffee with a smile. Every woman has her own story, her own strengths and personality which makes them unique. There is something positive to learn from each of them. When I entered a male-dominated industry over a decade ago, I never could have imagined the growth of women in the waste sector. The transformation has been remarkable. Industry conferences / shows are now a different environment then they used to be, more inclusive and diverse, which is proof that stereotypes can be broken. I’m very proud to have witnessed this change firsthand. Celebrate the women who mean the most to you, whether for the strength, love, talent, or inspiration they bring. No reason is too small to honour them. Support, uplift and celebrate each other. Happy International Women’s Day! ♀️ #internationalwomensday

🚨 Attention Reprocessors & Exporters – Major PRN Accreditation Changes Are Coming! 🚨 Big changes are on the horizon for reprocessors and exporters in the UK’s PRN (Packaging Recovery Note) accreditation system. If you handle packaging waste, it’s critical to understand what’s ahead – as these changes could impact your costs, accreditation process, and compliance obligations. Key Changes You Need to Know: ✅ Mandatory Registration Before Accreditation – You must register with the appropriate agency before applying for accreditation. No registration = no PRN issuance. ✅ Significant Fee Increases – Expect higher costs for registration, amendments, and accreditation, which could impact your bottom line. ✅ Stricter Compliance & Reporting – New quarterly reporting requirements, a "Fit and Proper Person" test, and stricter penalties for non-compliance. ✅ New PERN Issuance Rules – Exporters must now issue PERNs only when the waste is received at an overseas reprocessing site, not at the point of export. ✅ Application Deadlines – 🔹 Registration: Apply by 1st October 2025 (or within 28 days of starting to recycle or export packaging waste). 🔹 Accreditation: Apply by 30th September 2025 for your accreditation to be determined by 1st January 2026 What This Means for You: 📉 Delays in accreditation could slow down PRN issuance 💰 Increased costs could impact margins 📊 More stringent reporting & compliance requirements We’ve put together a detailed guide covering all the changes, what they mean for you, and how to prepare 💡 Want a copy? 📩 Drop us a message or comment below, and we’ll send it over. #PRN #Recycling #WasteManagement #Reprocessors #Exporters #Sustainability #PackagingWaste

🚨📣 Update on the 2024 Provisional Packaging Data: Correcting the Plastic Recycling Figures Last week, we shared an update on the 2024 provisional packaging data. However, it was later identified that the original plastic packaging recycling tonnage reported was incorrect ❌ The Environment Agency has since republished the data, providing a more accurate picture. The initial figure of 1,397,382 tonnes has been revised down to 1,157,919 tonnes. This correction significantly impacts the predicted carry-out of Plastic Packaging Recycling Notes (PRNs) 📋 Previously, the projected carry-out was around 300,000 tonnes, but with the updated figure, that projection has fallen to approximately 60,000 tonnes. While the original tonnage discrepancy created some uncertainty, the revised data gives us much better clarity. Encouragingly, the updated forecast suggests that the carry-out tonnage will still slightly increase compared to last year’s figures. This is positive news for plastic producers, indicating a more stable market position heading into 2025 📊✔️ That said, uncertainty remains regarding the 2025 UK demand for plastic packaging PRNs. It will be crucial to monitor market developments closely in the coming months. Data corrections and transparency are key to building confidence in the recycling market. This update only reinforces the importance of keeping a close eye on evolving data 👀 We’ll continue to share insights as more information becomes available.
