Public speaking is a key skill in today’s world, whether you’re presenting at work, speaking at events, or simply sharing ideas in meetings. Yet, it’s also one of the most common fears people face. I know this all too well because I’ve been there myself—gripped by anxiety at the mere thought of standing up in front of an audience. But, through experience and persistence, I managed to overcome my public speaking anxiety. If you're struggling with public speaking anxiety, here are my 3 top tips: 📣 Mindset: Start with self-awareness. Having the right mindset truly is the key to overcoming public speaking nerves. What beliefs are you holding? What language do you use with and about yourself? Next you can start to challenge those unhelpful patterns and change those automatic behaviours. 📣 Clear Goals: I see a lot of women who struggle because they have no clear goal. Ask yourself, "What do I want to achieve with my public speaking in the next 3 months?" Be specific! 📣 Consistent Action: Take regular steps towards your goal. Sounds obvious but when you have public speaking nerves avoidance can become a coping mechanism! When you have a fear of public speaking, no action is too small. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and celebrate every success. Reflect and refine and then go again! If you want to more support then check out the blogs on my website for loads of helpful tips and advice. #publicspeakingtips #publicspeakingnerves #communicationtips

Are you using feedback to your advantage? When it comes to improving your public speaking skills, feedback can be a game-changer—but it’s not always straightforward. Feedback can sometimes feel discouraging, and figuring out which advice to embrace and which to set aside can be a challenge. In my previous blog, “Do Women Receive Fair Feedback?”, I delved into the unique challenges women face, including biased or unhelpful feedback. Building on that, I’ve learned that the key to using feedback effectively lies in being deliberate about where it comes from and how you apply it. In my latest blog, I share my approach to seeking and using feedback that genuinely boosts your confidence as a public speaker. If you want to reduce public speaking anxiety and ultimately improve your public speaking skills, then feedback can be a valuable resource. But here’s the bind! Not all feedback is equally useful, and some can actually do more harm than good. So what do I mean by this? Well, what if the feedback you’re receiving isn’t entirely fair? What if the very advice meant to help you grow is actually making you shrink? It might just be the case. Because research shows that women often face more unfair and harsh feedback compared to men. In this blog, I explore how to navigate feedback that might be more about bias than your actual performance—and how to ensure it helps you grow, rather than shrink. https://lnkd.in/ewmcQWiZ Have you ever received feedback that left you questioning your abilities rather than boosting your confidence?
