💡 Last week, Equitix attended the UK Space Agency’s 'Unlocking Space for Business' showcase event held at PwC. Charlotte W., Equitix ESG & Sustainability Associate, shared our latest insights alongside Charlie Sidles, Founder’s Associate, Sust Global, on how asset managers can advance their understanding of climate risks and opportunities by leveraging satellite data and geospatial AI techniques. (both pictured here) 🌍 With £2.3bn already invested into Equitix's renewable power portfolio, we recognise the critical importance of understanding the full impact of climate change on our assets. We believe the proactive integration of climate-related considerations throughout the investment lifecycle is conducive to responsible long-term investment.🌱 🤝 In partnership with Sust Global, this innovative project has utilised satellite-derived observational data and AI to develop high-resolution wind speed models. These pioneering models are facilitating our understanding of how changing wind speeds could impact power outputs, enabling more informed and strategic decision-making. 🛰️ This project is partially funded by the UK Space Agency as part of its Unlocking Space for Business programme, which promotes the use of satellite data in the UK’s financial services sector: https://lnkd.in/eqGUzjNb Read more information on this fascinating project here: https://lnkd.in/eE85DZrH #partnership #innovation #unlockingspace #responsibleinvestor #infrastructuretolife

📢 Equitix acquires subsea energy interconnector linking Great Britain and Ireland 📢 Equitix and Baltic Cable AB have signed an agreement with Partners Group, acting on behalf of its clients, to acquire Greenlink Interconnector Limited, a 504 MW electricity interconnector between Great Britain and Ireland. 🤝 Greenlink, regulated by Ofgem and CRU, delivers a significant expansion in interconnection capacity between both markets, increasing their security of supply, promoting energy efficiency and facilitating economic competitiveness whilst supporting decarbonization and further integrating energy markets. Interconnectors are critical to power markets across Europe and are a key enabler for the energy transition. ⚡ The cable runs between EirGrid Group's Great Island substation in County Wexford, Ireland, and National Grid's Pembroke substation in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It utilises high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology, which is efficient for long-distance power transmission, and nominal capacity equivalent to powering around 380,000 homes. 🏘️ Greenlink is a highly strategic infrastructure asset that is the first project financed interconnector to be completed in Europe. 🌍 The partnering of Equitix, an investor in offshore transmission for over 12 years and Baltic Cable AB, a certified TSO who has been operating an interconnector between Germany and Sweden for over 30 years, offers significant long-term value. 🌊 Equitix CIO, Achal Bhuwania said: “We are extremely delighted with our investment in Greenlink, a major regulated asset of critical importance that enhances energy security and facilitates the integration of lower-carbon energy sources in Europe. Leveraging our decade-long experience in transmission assets and our complementary partnership with Baltic Cable, we are committed to driving Greenlink’s continued success for the benefit of all stakeholders.” Equitix was advised by Macquarie Capital, Linklaters, Deloitte, Arup and McCann FitzGerald LLP on this transaction. https://lnkd.in/e22k-EPT 👏 Congratulations to our team on this milestone transaction, particularly, Aisha Hamid, CFA, Siobhan Kiely, Henry Charles, CFA, Juan Buzaglo Vallée and Megan Chamberlain. #greenlink #partnership #energysecurity #greentransition #criticalinfrastructurem #infrastructuretolife

*Equitix invests in the world’s deepest fixed bottom offshore wind farm* 🌬️ Equitix is delighted to announce acquisition of the Seagreen Phase 1 offshore transmission assets from SEAGREEN WIND ENERGY LIMITED (SWEL), in a consortium with Kyuden International Corporation and Kyushu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Company, Incorporated, (“Kyuden Group”). 🌍 The Seagreen Phase 1 offshore wind farm is Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest fixed bottom offshore wind farm, located approximately 27km from the coastline of Angus. ♻️ With a maximum installed capacity of 1,075MW, Seagreen can generate enough renewable power to more than 1.6 million homes (or two-thirds of all Scottish homes) and displace over 2 million tons of carbon dioxide every year. ⚡ This offshore transmission project adds to Equitix’s OFTO portfolio of six OFTO assets, capable of transmitting c.3.5GW of power. Equitix and Kyuden Group are also preferred bidder on the Dogger Bank A OFTO, which is scheduled to reach financial close later this year. 👷♀️ The build of Seagreen was one of the largest construction projects ever undertaken in Scotland. Delivery of the project supported a £1bn-plus economic boost to the Scottish economy during construction, supporting around 4,000 Scottish jobs (according to independent analysis published by PwC). Equitix Chief Investment Officer, Achal Bhuwania said: "Our investment in Seagreen highlights the hard work and commitment of our team in building long-term partnerships and delivering value for our investors. Equitix’s experience and persistence enabled us to add another OFTO asset to our growing platform, which plays a key role in the UK’s path to a net-zero carbon future.” Equitix and Kyuden Group will own, operate and maintain this critical infrastructure asset for a 24-year period under the terms of a transmission license granted by Ofgem. The acquisition of the transmission assets was financed by equity from Equitix and the Kyuden Group and loans provided by a group of lenders including Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (London Branch), Mizuho Bank Ltd., and Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited. The Seagreen Phase 1 wind farm was developed by SWEL as a joint venture on behalf SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies and PTTEP. 🥳 Congratulations to our investments team, especially James Mellish, Ken Yashiki and Blair Nimmo.
