Anyone looking for someone to help them get the best from themselves and their team should get in touch, Tracy De Groose is one if the finest leaders I’ve worked with.

Be yourself, AI has everything else covered. Well, not quite. But, there’s an argument that in an AI powered world, we have an opportunity to embrace what makes us human. The industrial revolution left a legacy way of working: command and control structures, cookie-cutter job descriptions, tightly managed. Efficiency was king. To succeed in this world, know where you fit and do the job that’s asked of you. With automation, machine learning and AI doing more of the repetitive tasks, do we need to fit in the same way? Creativity, lateral thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship, requires independent thought, and lots of it. Diverse teams lead to better solutions, right? That requires we all embrace our uniqueness and individuality. “In order to be irreplaceable, one must be always be different”, according to Coca Chanel. That’s arguably more true now than it’s ever been. The jobs that have employed us in the past are disappearing, and fast. According to the now infamous stat - 60/70/85% (depending on source) of the jobs our kids will be doing in the future, don’t exist yet. The need to embrace our individuality and creativity has never been greater, if we are to future proof ourselves. Greater reflection on who we are, what we’re good at, what we love, what comes naturally, what energises us, might lead us down different career paths. Valuing difference, ours and others, will also lead to better collaboration. As well as embracing our unique and innate talents, by being more human we bring something AI can’t. Empathy, intuition, compassion, common sense, and cultural sensitivity, all much harder for AI to replicate. At our best we do idea generation better. Creativity is complex and not always rational. The best definition of innovation I’ve heard is - the unintended consequence of trying to do something else. Sometimes to reach breakthrough ideas, we have to disconnect from everything we know to find the magic. Having spent most of my working life trying to fit in, I know how hard it is to stand out and be who you are meant to be. Showing up authentically can make us feel vulnerable. In the words of the 1975, why not “give yourself a try”. I set up Brilliant Misfits in 2020, to empower a new breed of leaders, a new style of leadership and a new approach to team.
