It was a pleasure to attend Yorkshire Water’s South Elmsall STW last week alongside our Managing Director, Neal Whittle, as we welcomed Eric Wright Group Chairman, Mr. Eric Wright. During the visit, Mr. Wright had the opportunity to meet our 2025 apprentices, Nina Nwanze and Oliver Mcgonigle, discussing their civil engineering courses and future aspirations, while also sharing his own experiences and insights. The construction team, including EWW Contracts Manager Scott Arbuthnott, walked Mr. Wright and Neal through the progress on-site, showcasing how we’ve challenged conventional approaches to deliver the 3-hectare, 5-cell wetland. A key part of this has been working with our civil subcontractor DNS (midlands) Ltd and PowerCem (UK), who are constructing the wetland using the RoadCem lime stabilisation product. This innovative approach—a UK first for forming a water-retaining structure—has helped us reduce cost, carbon, and programme duration while delivering a sustainable nature-based solution. A special highlight of the visit was Mr. Wright planting the first plant of this nature-based wetland, marking a key milestone in the project. Designed to improve storm overflow management, this wetland supports Yorkshire Water’s commitment to WINEP and the industry's shift towards nature-based solutions for water management. A fantastic example of innovation driving positive environmental impact! A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this happen!
